Can't fathom early negative reviews
I remember when this came out, some critic panned it as a ripoff of other movies. I saw the film at a theater in Seattle, and what do you know, I heard someone say it was a ripoff afterwards. Who cares? Anyone who combines elements from other films to create something so entertaining is a genius in my opinion.
I think there are a lot of people in this society whose hobby is nitpicking movies. Somehow it makes them feel superior, I guess, that they can criticize them for something. While it's not as good as "Citizen Kane," I am going to rate it a 10 since so many people have underrated it. 6.1 is absolutely ridiculous. In reality it would have to be at least 8 or 9.
I notice the "Top 1000 Users" have the lowest rating at 5.8. I don't really know what "Top 1000 Users" are, but I assume it might mean the users who use IMDb the most. That bears out my idea that a lot of people just enjoy bashing movies.
I suppose you could say that if they use IMDb the most, that means they're the smartest. But I don't think so. I think there are a lot of immature people on the site. I'm sorry to be so negative, but a lot of people who spend hours on the site are people who just don't have anything better to do. I love IMDb, but I don't think it attracts the most thoughtful class of people. There are thoughtful people, but they're outnumbered by people who aren't.
