This film used to come on at 2 am on cable in this ski house I shared with a bunch of stoners. They’d watch it every dang night. I’d hear them drifting off to their rooms after saying “Fay-er is fay-er”

I like this movie. I have only watched it once though. I am only a part time stoner, once or twice a week. I will watch it again. Might do a double feature with gleaming the cube.

shareThe great thing about watching 80's teen is how many of these kids keep popping up over and over again. It's like "hey there's that guy again" with Courtney Gains, Billy Zabka, Casey Siemaszko, Alan Ruck, Stephen Geoffreys or someone like a young John Cusack for a few scenes before he blew up (Class and 16 Candles) a very young Christian Slater or Seth Green as the younger brother.
So much talent back then getting loads of work, like ensemble players moving from movie to movie and thats not even counting the horror movies with teens in where people keep popping up.
Teen movies nowadays are far between compared its either the same kid for a run of movies whos getting pushed into the limelight to be the next big thing or people you never see again.
Good point about 80s teen flicks...Courtney Gains plays starkly different roles in Cant Buy Me Love and Colors (another blast from the past- Gerardo shows up in both films too). Hughes had his favorites, and it’s interesting to remember Robert Downey Jr. roles of the decade. The golden era of teen-focused storylines.
And yes, Billie Jean is a fun watch.
I loved Courtney Gains in Cant Buy Me Love. Felt so sad when they threw shit at his house, and he didn't snitch on his friend.
RDJ popped up in quite a few also. Back to School, Tuff Turf, Weird Science, Johnny Be Good then you've got multiple more crossovers from other teen movies just in those with Billy Zabka, Keith Gordon, Anthony Michael Hall, James Spader etc
Then in Less Than Zero (1987) James Spader, RDJ and Andrew McCarthy collide for a more adult movie.
It kinda had a cult following because of its teen angsty nature along with the Billie Jean look. And that Pat Benatar song was baller.
And far better performances, writing and directing than Supergirl.
Its got a message, some good visuals, music and moments. Cast is great. It was never on TV here in the UK, caught it by accident as I was mining the last of the decently rated 80's teen movies
Supergirl is awful, I used to hate that as a kid.
Cast was ok-ish. Had problems tolerating that little sister character with the whiney screechy awful voice. She was almost cartoonishly odd and annoying af. Her big sister was grating at times too. The southern accents were all laid on a bit thick. Christian Slater’s character was kind of a flat, blank. Needed more substance from him, especially since the whole storyline trigger was his stupid moped. The lead was good. Her love interest guy was ok. The villains and lead cop were good.

I never watched The Simpsons. Yeah I recall seeing her in other stuff. It was more the character and inane dialogue she had in this film that got intolerable. Her voice plus the forced West Texas (?) accent just underscored the annoyance.
