I live in Corpus Christi and I went to Mr. Pyatt's store yesterday.

The place is still there and is now Dockside Surf Shop. It's a cool little store. A few years back they took out that spiral staircase that leads to the second floor. Last weekend I went to Sunrise Mall which was the mall that was used during the chase scene. The fountain is still there and looks almost exactly the same except for one thing. The water is not running anymore. The entire mall is not what it used to be. There are alot of stores closed and it seems to have lost it's shoppers. The KayBee Toy store is still there where Binx bought the toy gun and guess what? They have toy guns for sell right in the entrance whre he bought the gun. Just a little tid bit for the Billie Jean Fan.

Fantastic! Thanks so much for checking out the original sites. It was fun hearing how all the places have faired since the movie. I wish I could have seen them too!

reply

That's some awesome s*** right there! I absolutely love the movie and make my poor boyfriend watch it with me everytime it comes on!

I also live in Corpus Christi (Flour Bluff). I lived here when the movie was being filmed too. Dockside has always been Dockside...the same name as before the movie was made. I saw a lot of the filming being done because we lived nearby. Everything around here is completely different now. I think the coolest thing for me personally is that I've been in "Lloyd's house." My mother used to work for the current owners of the home. The pool slide was just put in for the movie...which was a big dissapointment! It was pretty neat walking around that house though!

reply

Yeah dude I live in CC too.

reply

Where's Lloyd's house located at? I know that it's on Ocean Drive but I don't know exactly where.

reply

Is that house on Ocean Drive? I live in San Antonio, and I have to drive down Ocean any time I visit Corpus, the houses there are awesome.

reply

Im from CC too but the location of the KB store had changed since the movie was filmed. The ORIGINAL KB store was located just outside of Sears where the hallway to Steinmart now is and the store was moved upstairs and is now closed.

unfortunately, the house used in the movie, which is on Ocean Drive, burned down killing 3 of the 4 occupants who lived there.

reply

Actually, the house used in the movie STILL stands. The house that recently burned down is actually two lots over from the "Billie Jean" house. The house from the film stands at the corner of Ocean Drive and Doddridge. The Serrao home (the one that recently burned down) is an entirely different home all together.

thanks for keeping us up on the billie jean sites. i used to live in corpus and recently saw how run down the sunrise is. what a shame. it really was THE mall to hang out in the early-mid 80s. stay cool

Sunrise mall went to crap because they made a rule about no one under 15 or some age couldn't be there without a parent. So all the kids went to Staples Mall. Now Staples Mall is the good mall, and it's older.

Of course, only Corpus is dumb enough to have two malls right next door to eachother.

oh I live in Corpus too.

reply

That is so cool! I wanna go! How about the trailer park is that there too?

reply

i'm wondering where that swimming hole is located at. ya and when the are sleeping in that mini-golf course, thats been long gone. its neat watching a movie and saying "i've been there" "i know where that is" "i listen to that radio station"

reply

Wow man all you guys are bringing back old memories for me! I live in Phoenix, AZ now just after I got out of the Marines. But I was born and raised in Corpus. Once a Buc always a Buc! Ya when I visited my Mom and Dad I drove over to Sunrise and it looks like a building marked for death. Even Padre Staples Mall has hit the trash.

Anyone got any ideas how many "Big Budget" movies have been filmed in Corpus?
All I could think of was The Legen of Billie Jean, Selena, and The King. Wasn't a couple of scenes for Pearl Harbor filmed on the Lexington?

Ya that's pretty cool man when they show the scene of the kids screaming FAIR IS FAIR! on hot Z-95. I haven't heard that station since I graduated back in 99. Isn't it funny how all of us Corpus people mostly talk about the town on these messege boards instead of the flick? Check out the user comments on those other movies I named and it's the same way. Well yall take it easy. Have fun in that humid weather you Corpus People! I miss it!

reply

reply

Oh man, I remember Hot Z95 - that was my favorite station when I lived in Portland! But that was many, many years ago. Is that station still going strong?

reply

yep, Hot z 95 is still pretty much the most popular pop/hip hop music station other than the planet 102.3 among the teens here in corpus.

reply

The radio station on Billie Jean wasn't Z-95 it was C-101.
