After the fire (spoilers)

Does anybody have any idea how after that fire, everything worked out the way it did and Billie Jean and Binx got to Vermont?

reply

Well obviously not, since we have all seen the same film as you.. LOL

There is no way to know. I agree that it would have been nice to take a few minutes to show how it all ended, instead of just cutting from the fire to them in Vermont. Were no charges filed, did she end things with Lloyd, etc..

Just details you have to leave to the imagination. Unless they ever put out a DVD release, and there are some deleted scenes...

The Peter Coyote character let her go. They made eye contact, and instead of arresting and charging her he let her go, but she knew she still couldn't go back home because people like Mr. Piatt would want her arrested (probably adding the fire onto her charges, even if it was accidental), so she and Binx kept running. The end.

And what about Binx? He was shot, he had to be in the hospital for a spell before they could take off for Vermont.

reply

I don't think this is what happened. Mr. Piatt would not have a legal leg to stand on now. Once everyone heard that he had tried to rape a teenage girl, no one would take his word. Remember Det. Coyle had his suspicions about Piatt from the beginning, but he didn't have any proof. Now he has pretty close to a confession of guilt in front of a whole group of people. Billie Jean basically accused him of attemted rape, and he didn't deny it. Even Hubie believed her. Piatt's word would be crap now.

And Billie Jean and Binx wouldn't be able to leave right away anyway. Don't forget that Binx was shot and would likely be in the hospital for several days recuperating.

The ending was kind of funny because in the beginning, going to Vermont was all he could think about, even before he shot Mr. Piatt. Then when he finally got to Vermont, he was complaining about the cold. When he was at home in the beginning, he was complaining about the heat. Maybe he should have come to Ohio (though we have both extreme cold and extreme heat here). And we have places to go skiing in the wintertime.

Well, I would hope she finally figured out that she could sue Mr. Pyatt for unauthorized commercial use of her likeness. ;-)
After all, she never signed a consent form for publication of her photo...
But since there is no real information available, we can only speculate:
Maybe she signed some major media deal, i.e. exclusive rights to her full story. Just use your imagination!

My theory is that they got a lot of money after their situation and finally took the trip from Texas to Vermont. Remember the station C101 how they kept saying money was piling in from all over and they had a collection going? "You stay out there long enough, you can get your brother 10 scooters!" I hope they took that money because it was the public supporting them.
