I like Tangerine Dream's work, but I don't like the theatrical cut at all. It's so choppy and heavy-handed. There is nothing wrong with Jerry Goldsmith's music either. I prefer the director's cut of the film, not based on the music so much as the film just works way better. But I don't mind Goldsmith's music being used at all. I think it is fine as well.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

The Director's Cut with the Tangerine Dream score would be absolutely perfect IMO.

I grew up watching the Theatrical version and Tangerine Dream score. The Jerry Goldsmith isn't terrible but doesn't seem to go with the movie. It sounds like belongs in a Suspense 1960's film.

~I love the rhythm it is my methoood!~

A part of the Goldsmith score was in fact re-used from Psycho II.

I also prefer the Tangerine Dream score and the theatrical cut enough that I rate the theatrical cut a 3/4 and the director's cut only a 2/4.

Then you have no taste in music.

My personal opinion about this based on my taste in films and music;

I'm an older guy and when I saw the American version of "Legend" many years ago as an adult, I thought it was an OK kid's film about as good as "Labyrinth".

I didn't think that "Legend" was at the level of "The Princess Bride" for instance in terms of quality in a fantasy movie.

And I thought the Tangerine Dream score in "Legend" sometimes had a nice mystical electronic sound and some of the music worked well. But a lot of the time I thought the sound track was weak.

- Then I heard that the director's cut of "Legend" had been released on Blu-Ray.
I got it and to me this version is a much better movie.

As for the music in the DC, Jerry Goldsmith's score is excellent. He is just a much better composer than Tangerine Dream. Goldsmith is one of the best film composers of all time.

Electronic music in a movie can be at the highest level of quality. Vangelis was able to do that. But Tangerine Dream cannot write music as well as Vangelis or Goldsmith.

Again, imo.

it's just in my opinion - imo -

Grew up on a truncated 90min version of LEGEND, with the Goldsmith score. The film and Goldsmith's music has always impressed me. Had the opportunity to view the US edit with the Tangerine Dream score several years ago along with Ridley Scott's DC. Was not all that impressed with the US Tangerine Dream version. It had some nice melody's; but didn't appear to transcend and complement the visuals as well as Goldsmith did and appears minor in comparison. I also didn't like how the US version opened, with showing us all of Darkness. It took the shock and awe aspect of his appearance later on in the film, when he first reveals himself to Lily.

I love the Tangerine Dream version as well and think it fits the movie more, just watched the Goldsmith version and it seems out of place and kind of weird for Goldsmith. It's probably the only thing Goldsmith has done that I'm not very fond of. Tangerine Dream's score for Risky Business is one of my favorites also.

So which version of the movie actually has the Tangerine Dream score? I have the Australian bluray with the theatrical and director's cut but both versions have the Jerry Goldsmith music. I actually can't remember the music from when I watched it as a kid.

In memory of Sam Peckinpah

The theatrical version has the tangerine dream score. And i'll tell you now it's pretty expensive online there is no way of buying it in shops (well I live in Scotland and I have never seen it in any shop) and also shame on filmfour for constantly playing the directors cut!! Bbc2 was the only channel to play the theatrical legend.

Been looking for the Tangerine Dream version on DVD forever. It is so my favourite version. I didn't know there was another version until I recorded it and watched it and I thought this seems strange. The whole film has a different feel for me. And sorry but when Lily started to sing to the Unicorns I was horrified. Up till that moment I had only ever watched my VHS copy recorded from BBC2 in the 90's! I still have my VHS copy and it still plays which is a miracle as it must have been played hundreds of times. Please, Please, Please if anyone is reading this please bring the Tangerine Dream version out on DVD for those of us who only knew that version. The other one is just not the same and it irritates me to watch it and my VHS copy won't last forever :-(

Tangerine Dream's soundtrack makes the film. It really does. I tried watching the Director's Cut right now and, even though it's visually more appealing all Bluray-ed out and all, the soundtrack doesn't fit. It sounds too Hollywood-ish. The Tangerine Dream soundtrack is just perfect and really makes the film extra beautiful.
