I love this movie and I know Sam Jackson's gonna play the bad guy in the remake, but I hope the newbie they get to take over Taimak's role has the same innocense, sweetness and cuteness that Taimak conveyed in the original. And hopefully Vanity's part won't go to Beyonce' or yet another non-acting sexpot. This was a quality film. I really hope they don't ruin it when they bring it back for a newer audience... Does anyone yet know who's gonna play the leading role?

No, because it still hasn't gotten past the script phase and the project is in "development hell".

Unfortunately that's the case at the moment. It's stuck in 'development hell,' with no official green light from the studio. No director has been attached to the project all this time. And it's been in various script changes after the Rza didn't like the initial draft of the script. I thought naturally this would've had legs after the success of the Karate Kid remake but no news yet pretty much has set it's fate to the developmental hell state.
