jeremy rinner, michael fassbender or tom hardy as navarre

which one of these guys could pull off playing the cursed black knight/hero navarre if there is a ladyhawke reboot/remake in the works?

Fassbender

I don't see Fassbender in that role, as I would expect a knight to be bulkier (just imagine the weight they had to carry around with the armour).
Jeremy Renner would be a good idea.
I think Tom Hardy has too much of a boyish charme to him.
My personal favourite would be Richard Armitage.
I could also see Gerard Butler.

I really don't like anyone new in the roles. But everyone the OP suggested would be awful and a pale comparison to Rutger Hauer. I like all those actors in general, but none of them could pull off Navarre. Hauer had the perfect combination of strength with vulnerability, and that's not easy to replicate. Also, Renner and Fassbender are simply too small and not sufficiently rugged-looking to play the role; and Hardy just isn't attractive enough.

Richard Armitage is actually the only suggestion for a recast that hasn't made me want to punch my computer screen. I REALLY don't want a remake, but if it HAD to be remade, he'd do the part justice. And Daniel Radcliffe would do justice to Mouse. And maybe Kiera Knightley as Isabeau (she's the go-to for historical fiction, after all).

But again, I really think the movie was perfect the first time and doesn't need to be remade.

I think Keira Knightly would be a little too tough for the role. Don't get me wrong she is extremely beautiful but not in the way Isabeau should be in my point of view, as Isabeau should have something angelic. I have always pictured Claire Danes or how about Olivia Wilde? Claire Forlaine would also be an idea.

Knightly is too light-weight to go up against Michelle Pfeifer.
Hard pass.

Of those three I would actually go Tom Hardy.

All three have the acting skills to pull it off although Hardy and Fassbender are better.

Hardy just has the serious, vengeful, forlorn expressions that would make the movie work so much better.

For Isabeau... umm not sure.

For Isabeau, how about Margot Robbie of the wolf of wall street?

reply

neither!

some films just shouldn't be remade!

reply

Yes, I absolutely agree. The movie doesn't need to be remade because there's nothing to improve - the actors were perfect in their roles, the cinematography was wonderful, and the writing was great.

And none of the actors suggested by the OP would work in the role of Navarre. Hauer had the perfect combination of acting ability and physicality. Jeremy Renner is like 5'5" - he'd be absurd.

Oh man! To cast for Nav and Isa *beep* I want to see a prequel of their story before the cures so badly. Just hope it won't be butchered like the Ghostbusters film (saw that last week and regret it). Anyway I would love to see someone (two people) worthy of these characters that I am mad about. All three of these guys might be perfect just hope they are tall enough, built right and have what Rutger Hauer had.

Isa casting is tough, beauty maybe asked for but talent is hard to find.

Taking this one further, how 'bout Jeremy Irons as The Bishop?

Or, Daniel Day-Lewis!

This should not be remade, the tinny musical soundtrack notwithstanding; so that probably means that it will be, because it has an amazing story and Hollywood has no imagination or dignity. Isabeau: Amanda Seyfried. Navarre: Chris Hemsworth, plus one FUCK of an acting coach. Phillipe: I'd prefer that the script dumped the character altogether. Ladyhawke is one of my most-loved films, but, whenever I watch it, I keep hoping that Broderick will die THIS time. If Phillipe must be included, get a younger actor who can actually act, and not just do corny comic schtick, perhaps Freddy Highmore.

And please have better music, music like the original Conan the Barbarian or The Lord Of The Rings or Game of Thrones. Not Music For 80s Karaoke.

Tom Hardy.

If there was a reboot today, they’d pick a PoC actor for the role.

reply

As for your suggestions, none of them would work. Neither of them have the power, charisma, and screen presence of Hauer.

And the overrated Hardy would just use another ludicrous accent like he always does so he’d come off like a cartoon.
