Book = Movie?

I am a student and I am currently reading this book for class, I don't really understand it. Can anyone help me by telling me the main events of the book or movie? Help would be greatly appreciated.

The book and the movie have nothing to do with each other. Read the book, or watch some other filmatization of it. This one is just a bad Indiana Jones -ripoff, and has very little to do with the original book.

Allan Quatermain is a revered elephant hunter in Africa, who meets two Englishmen on a quest. One - Sir Henry Curtis - is looking for his brother George, who went missing on an expedition to find the lost mines of King Solomon. Quatermain, who remembers hearing a story or two about the mines and happens to have a rough map, eventually agrees to be a guide to Curtis and Captain Good (the other Englishman) in their journey across the deserts and mountains in their path. On the way, they recruit a team of natives to help them, including the enigmatic Umbopa.

The trek across the desert is pretty fierce and dangerous, but eventually they reach the mountains, crossing over into Kukuanaland. You'll have to read the book to find out what happens there because it's a bit of a giveaway if someone tells you :)

It's a pretty simple story really, once you get around some of the phrasing. In essence it is the forerunner of the Indiana Jones trilogy, an epic treasure hunt in a faraway land. But much much better when you get through it :)

PS. Never watch a movie to help you understand the book - they chop and change, and lose too much. Your best bet is to finish reading and *then* watch the film - that way you'll enjoy it more (unless you like decent acting...)
