What about a DVD?

This movie was not fully appreciated in its all-too-brief theatre run, but has an expansive cult following now. With more and more movies being rereleased on DVD, it is shameful that a quality movie such as this has gone ignored.

I agree. It's time that this movie is released on DVD!

If you look at how films are released on DVD there's a schedual that they follow, usually based on the year. "Fandango" will be released, but I don't think any films from 1985 have released yet.

That could very well be the case. It may be that there is a schedual, but that it's also dictated by box office numbers and expected sales returns for video based on those numbers. So your observation makes sense.

Yeah, i found this movie on cable at 3 in the morning. bought it the next day. i didn't know about the cult following though? how big is it? What a great movie nonetheless.

Hey! Let me know if your find this film on DVD before I do. -Appreciate it!

I WAS SO HAPPY WHEN I BOUGHT THIS MOVIE ON VHS! This was one of my favorite movies growing up in the 80's. I would think it would have had a higher rating on IMDB, but no matter--I absolutely love this film!

To me, it had a brilliant cast as well as performances--probably the best performance I have ever seen by Costner (aside from "Silverado" and "The Untouchables"), and the soundtrack just really brings this film together!

Although "Fandango" was hilarious I found it extremely moving--it's makes me so nostalgic for yesterday. To be absolutely honest I cry everytime Gardner dances the Fandango with his lost love and then "The Groovers" say goodbye and go off into the world of matimony, war, work and whatever have you. This is such a significant film for those of us who are "30 something" and had the wonderous pleasure of growing up in the 60's and 70's as well.

I would have love to have the dvd, and also the movie soundtrack. If anyone finds either please let me know.

Well put trayceenic, I totally agree...it's a masterpiece. Costner's best performance, Judd was great,as was Sam Robards. The best coming-of-age movie of alltime!

Thanks tid! Hey I've looked everywhere and I don't even know if a soundtrack was even released for "Fandango", but if you should come across something please let me know. It really takes me back, ya know?

Anyway, I'm glad there are others out there that can really appreciate a good film whether it's a blockbuster or not!

Take care!

Apparently it's "coming soon" to DVD. You can submit your email address to Amazon and they will notify you when's available.

A soundtrack was never released for this movie, but most of the music is still easy to find on MP3s and CD's. The only one that is not is the "Fandango." It is actually a song called "Its For You" by Jazz Guitarist Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. It is on an album called As Falls Wichita So Falls Wichita Falls. Some stores have it, but it is easier ordered from Amazon.com.

First film I saw with Kevin Costner. I was impressed with the screenplay, the actors and the feel of the film. This was enhanced by the Pat Metheny Group soundtrack and the west Texas scenery. The evening shots in San Eliazar, TX (the Gazebo) are beautifully lit and filmed. There's just something about those big, colored light bulbs and a west Texas night. Films like this usually have large cult followings but don't always make a big splash at the box office. This is just a gem and a very special experience. Look for the DVD in 2005!

reply

yes, yes I agree on almost everything, except I did like "the dance" at the wedding, it was very eighties, but hey, it was filmed in 1985. I guess they couldn't help clashing the 70's with the 80's.

No mention of my favorite...Truman Sparks!!!

Hey...how are we going to stop? XD

Hopefully it will get released on DVD, but expect the Warner Brothers economy treatment of it. That means a cardboard case and barely any features. Kevin Costner and Kevin Reynolds don't get along, so they may not do commentary together or even alone. A featurette would be nice as well.

Last year, November of 2003, the DVD was listed on Amazon with an April 13th release date. Then about 2 weeks before that, it just went away. I have no idea what happened to that listing or if it was just a mistake or what. I am only sure of this because it was in my Wish List for so long. This has no bearing to the issue at hand, which is when will it come out, but I thought it was interesting enough to mention.

Peace!
