Costner's best-by far!

I was downloading music all night from coltrane to pharoah sanders to pat metheny. I remembered "Last Train Home" by Metheny and lsitened to it the rest of the night and remembered the movie Fandango. I typed it in Google and saw mark's review. Costner's better know films overwhelm him. he is not a method actor or even a good one. but in Fandango he was at his best. In fact so was Judd nelson. I consider this movie to be a cult film of the future. yes Viet Nam hung in the background, but it was the great and vast uncertain future they were all fearful of; and the backdrop of the wide western plains was, along with Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays music, the perfect accompaniment. They knew they would never be young and carefree again-possibly not even be friends again. But they also knew they would look back on that time as precious and valued. They were saying goodbye to each other and their own youth.

It's definitely his best film.

He's had some others: Open Range, Field of Dreams, Silverado, Dances with Wolves - but he's done more crap than good ones.

He'll always be Gardner Barnes to me, though.

to me this is his 3rd best behind Dances with wolves and Open Range, this was an excellent little film that few people have seen, but now that it is on dvd maybe more people will see and appreciate it., by the way I think it was one of Judd Nelson's best ever as well, also the soundtrack was one of the best for any movie, except for maybe Forrest Gump.

i think it might be his best as well, but don't sell him too short...

i thought costner was also great in no way out, jfk and the little-seen
a perfect world...

not to mention bull durham and tin cup...

i think costner gets a raw deal from lots folks because of the tremendous
bad publicity surrounding waterworld and the postman... i've never seen
such piling on during the whole waterworld thing... a little over the top...
it's just an action movie... what's the big deal...

i'd say he's done more good than bad...

Costner's best film was The Big Chill. They cut all his scenes !!!

Only joking. I nominate Wyatt Earp with Fandango as a close second.

Yeah, I was surprised by how good he was in this. It makes me understand why he's a star. Its funny that Kevin Reynolds also directed him in Waterworld.

Kevin Costner's had a tremendous career. Waterworld was good and The Postman is a near masterpiece. But Fandango is his best film overall and by far his best performance. Period.

Waterworld may have been good, in a Mad Max sort of way - and I will watch it a little if I catch it on TV - but I wouldn't really call it his best acting or role.
