Couple of scene location questions....

1. I've never been able to figure out where the train scene was - next to the McLean Massacre historic marker. There were two Santa Fe rail lines in far-western Texas: (1) the one that's now called the Orient Railroad that runs from Fort Worth all the way out to Presidio, via Brownwood, San Angelo, Fort Stockton, Alpine and Marfa; and (2) a since-scrapped line that ran to Pecos from the Carlsbad area that still runs from Clovis, N.M., to just south of Carlsbad. I thought it was implied that it was the rail line that ran through Fort Stockton and Alpine, but I also know that parts of the movie were filmed near Pecos.

2. I know the church scene was filmed in San Elizario (near El Paso), and I've even visited that site. But, I was just curious if the town square was supposed to be in Presidio or somewhere else?

Yes the town square is supposed to be Presidio in the film. As for the other location I'm not sure. You should check out the message board at the Fandango website. One of the regulars there is friends with a couple guys who were part of the Fandango film crew and can probably tell you where that was.

To answer 1), it was on the Ft Stockton, Alpine and Marfa route, where many of the other scenes were also shot. I don't believe anything was shot near Pecos.
