Dude, it was speculation, not refutation.

Truth is, you're right that it's unlikely, given that fandango.com was a corporate creation from the outset, not the brainchild of two movie-fans in a garage.

On the other hand, it doesn't matter what IMDB's rating is or what my friends think. IMDB fans watch movies; they don't make them or market them. Same with most of my friends.

Thing is, what relevance does the URL "fandango.com" have w.r.t movies if not for this one film? Someone would've had to scoop up that URL very early in the game to even own it, and it's unlikely that corporate hacks would cough up the cash to buy off some earlier-acting cyber-squatter. They'd have just come up with a different URL like, "therealmovietickets.com" or somesuch.

SOME-one along the line made the connection between "fandango.com" and "movies," and it's not an obvious connection without this flick.

Problem is, fandango.com being the creation of a consortium of studios, the "focus group" that came up with the name and either registered or bought the URL has long since disbanded and probably work in completely different fields right now.

There may be no way to know for sure, in other words.

But to answer the OP's question, I don't think it's a dumb question and I'll wager (at the risk of being presumptuous) that Roy Munson doesn't think it's dumb either, even if he does think the answer is "no."
