On 8/24 we will all be able to finally see "Proof".

A new DVD "Reel Talent: First Films by Legendary Directors" will be released, and among the films included is Keven Reynold's short film that inspired "Fandango".

The wait is almost over!

The DVD of "Proof" is finally here.

In fact, the new DVD "Reel Talent" includes several student films from USC including works by George Lucas, Robert Zemeckis and more.

But Kevin Reynolds' "Proof" is the 20 minute short film you have been waiting for. What is it exactly? Well...

Basically "Proof" is the sky diving sequence from "Fandango".

It opens and closes with a Led Zeppelin song "Friends" (how fitting).

The characters of four buddies is basically the same, but watching a different actor take on Gardner is interesting. Hicks and Dorman are there too. Truman is actually played by the same actor -- which makes this extra fun.

Many of the same lines and shots from "Fandango" can be first found here.

Reynolds has a firm hand with his craft. Although it feels like a student film, it's so well done, with a major skydiving sequence to boot, that you soon forget and just get lost in the fun.

You can't escape how awesome that shot jumping out of the plane must have looked to students and instructors (and Hollywood) in 1980. Very impressive camera work and execution.

Also, you can hear Darth Vader's March from Empire playing as the plane takes off into the sky. A nice creative touch. You can see why Spielberg liked the film so much and decided to produce a feature length version.

A twenty year wait to see this holy grail for "Fandango" fans is finally over.

Dom's little brother has finally been found!

Got the dvd yesterday. Also I got to see Proof in July at the Ultimate Fandango on the big screen. Marvin McIntyre brought his personal copy that he's had for years.

reply

Oh my god, that sounds incredible. What exactly was the Ultimate Fandango? It's pretty obvious what it was, but could you go into intricate details about the event? And did McIntyre allude to any interesting stories or anecdotes about the filming of Proof or Fandango? Thanks

reply

The Ultimate Fandango was AMAZING. Marvin, Chuck, and Brian had all kinds of stories to tell. But the star of the night was seeing Kevin Reynolds' uncut director's cut of the film; it was his personal print of it. An amazing night. It'll be next year as well in Texas if you would like to come. I strongly suggest you free up your calender.
