I've seen the US R1 on pre-order from one site and the UK R2 on pre-order from two different sites.
Sadly the R1 listing says it's going to be 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen with 2.0 audio, the original print has 5.1 audio and is 2.35:1 widescreen, wether the 1.82:1 anamorphic means it's actually 2.35:1 I don't know but the 2.0 audio thing sucks when we know there's the full 5.1 on the original print.
The R2 listings don't give out any specifications of the disc.
Looks like this is going to be one of those rush-jobs like Flight of the Navigator was, I've seen 3 different DVDs from 3 different countries and it wasn't till the US R1 release turned up that a decent version was made.
5.1 the film was 1985...... unless its been remastered id imagine the original is jusy a dolby surround soundtrack at best
shareSome of the release prints (70mm, to be exact) had 6-track stereo sound,
so it is feasible to create a 4.1 or 5.1 mix for the DVD release just from that source
(such was done for both 1985 releases of "RETURN TO OZ" and "COCOON" on DVD).
As for the aspect ratio of the film, I've wondered for years what it actually was. It definitely was not shot with anamorphic lenses, but that doesn't mean the OAR wasn't 2.35:1. It looks more like 1.85:1 to me, but it is possible the film was shot soft-matted with scope-release prints (similar to the Super35
process; in fact, the technical info on imdb list it was photographed in a process called Ultracam35, so I suppose that is possible).
