extra scenes (not on dvd)

I have seen on tv,extra scenes

1. When the guys are building the thunderoad, they find Wolfgang's little brother,Ludwig in the thunderoad, later he is seen in a trash can (i think) with lights attached to it.

2. After the bit where Ben err, tries to get a cat out of the tree outside Lori's window,Lori invites ben and then Wolfgang to her party. At the party,Ben talks to lori in provate and tries to kiss her, after getting rejected, and after the party,Ben get furious and shouts at wolfgang.

I know ther is paperback of the movie around,do these scenes or any other new scenes appear in it?

Those scenes were never part of the film. They were featured in the paperback novelisation, but never made the final cut. They were also in the picture book of the film, each one of them has a featured picture. That may be where you remember them from.

You're probably right. I know of the picture book,I have seen it many years ago. Perhaps it was that? then again, remembering that I was a kid when I first saw the storybook and movie, I'm not surpised that I got them mixed up.

Mind you, how can you be so sure that those scenes arn't in any other film release other than the UK or US? They released it in Australia too you know, video and television.Where did you get that information from? You can't say that you read it on the internet, even Dante himself didn't know those "new" dvd additional scenes were still around, and he made the movie!

Those 'extra' DVD scenes were taken straight from the UK video version of Explorers, which came straight from the theatrical cut. The US version was actually a 'special home video' version, that was essentially an edited version of the theatrical release (with one small addition).

The reason I'm fairly sure (but not positive) that the scenes from the picture book were never in the final cuts of the film are; 1) years of searching (not conclusive), and 2) This messageboard. If anyone can say "I own a version of Explorers with..." then I'll happily be proved wrong. As for Australia, they used to have films shipped straight from Europe, so their versions are usually the same as the European ones.

Like I say, If anyone had a different version, I'd be over the moon, because it would prove that those scenes were released somewhere. But until then, as far as I'm concerned, it's just a nice dream.

I just got the DVD (Region 2), to replace my old VHS original release. The scenes listed as additional ones were part of the film on my 18 year old tape, but have been cut on the DVD and put back as extras. Extremely annoyed about that, as the first cut scene leads into Ben getting beaten up by the school bully, with the 'elephantitus of the ego' comment and explains how Wolfgang had time to build the circuit, as he went home after his trousers got ripped.
Just as well I kept my VHS copy.

i'm pretty annoyed that the scenes that were cut on the dvd weren't put back into the film. additionally, i seem to recall seeing the party scene when i saw this film in 85...tho my memory is a bit foggy...

i noticed on the movie channels they frequently cut on of the last scenes in the movie...that is, where ben's classroom is suddenly empty and the thunder road is sitting at the back of the classroom.

*sigh*
i wish there was some release that had ALL the missing scenes back in it. i'd love to see it as dante/luke originally intended.

It's easy to mis-remember things from when you were younger. You can see a picture, and ten years later be certain it was part of the film. Like I said, if anyone actually has those scenes on video, I would love to be proved wrong.

That scene is only present in the US 'special' home video versions. The TV versions seem to all be the Theatrical edition.

Sadly, the film was never really completed, as the studio took it from Dante before he'd finished making it. As for the deleted scenes, he thinks they're long gone now. But it's still nice to dream!

Just bought a DVD tonight - Widescreen, Best Buy, Usa

"Some footage has been added and some deleted from the theatrical version" is printed right on the back of the case
