VHS copy Vs DVD copy, Call it my need to know!

The whole bullying scene from beginning where he is being punched and where to impress the girl he does the 'Elephantitus' joke is deleted from DVD? what other scenes are deleted. I rented this as a kid when it originally came out and rented it many times years after word for a movie to watch when was being babysat and stuff and not own the original VHS copy and other than that recently downloaded a Divx copy of the VHS for my PC and to make into a DVD so original version is only version ive ever seen but is how I originally watched it and love it. I would not want to watch it with missings scenes from the VHS version as would bug the he ll outta me. I'm curious to know what is cut out if someone could tell me or even what the deleted scenes are on the DVD if any?

This is one of my top 5 movies ever from childhood and I wouldn't change a thing from VHS version unless to add some bonus scenes that were never in it bit NEVER would cut a second from it.

Always wanted to get this on DVD of course for enhanced guality but if are tons of deleted stuff from what im used to it would drive me crazy and be unwatchable. Just like VHS copy of the Lawnmower Man. Aparently the VHS copy I always knew the movie by is the 'Directors Cut' as when I watched the movie on DVD SO MANY parts were cut that I consider important parts and some of the best bits in the movie. I sold that DVD as that version is completely unwatchable, savour my old VHS of it that cannot buy anymore as only DVD version is available missing at least 30% of the movie.

I've never found Explorers on DVD yet in store but I'd appreciate any full insight anyone has who bought it and what is cut or added and any features.

A little late reply, but hopefully you'll still see this... The DVD I have is identical to the VHS copy I had from about 5 - 10 years prior. The fight and elephantitus scene is still in the DVD copy. The only difference is that the DVD contains two additional scenes that aren't in my VHS copy. (They don't play when you watch the movie, but are available under Deleted Scenes.) One scene is a scene with Wolfgang getting picked on (it essentiallly sets up the elephantitus scene). The second scene shows the kids pushing the Tilt-A-Whirl down a street as they're taking it back to the creek.

I wish they'd someday release a much more in depth DVD. I realize this movie may not have done well in theaters, but it's such a great movie to not get a more detailed treatment. Director commentary and more deleted scenes (no matter how raw) would be a real treat. From reading here and around the web, the studio forced Joe Dante to rush the completion of this movie. I'd really love to hear what happened and what else this movie could've been.

It all depends on where you're from: If you're from the UK then the DVD will disappoint, because the two scenes (walk to school/Tilt-a-whirl) are only available as deleted scenes, whereas they were a part of the original UK version. However, if you're from the US, then the film is the same as the old rental version but with the two scenes as a 'new' bonus.
