what was the name of the film playing at the drive in?

anybody know???

'Starkiller', but it's not a real film. They shot it for Explorers, and used Robert Picardo (Wak) as the hero.

Ah well... I was hoping for a cheesy movie I hadn't seen yet.

Wow, I was about to misinform you and say "This Island Earth." But I haven't seen Explorers since I was a kid. :/

It is This Island Earth.

Been looking for Explorers for a while now (couldn't quite remember it's name) for the purpose of finding out what the film at the drive in was. lol.

The film that's playing when they're flying around in the Thunder Road is called 'Starkiller', and it was made up for Explorers.

There are clips of 'This Island Earth' in the film, but there are also clips of 'War Of The Worlds'. Neither of them is playing when they're flying around the drive-in.

I posted on the StarKiller thread that Dante originally wanted to use scenes from a 1960 Japanese movie called BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE. Toho Studios wanted too much money to use those scenes so it became cheaper to shoot something from scratch. You can find BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE as part of Sony Icons Sci-FI DVD set with MOTHRA and THE H-MAN. I think it sells for less than $15 and is still available through Amazon.
