Wonderful little gem of a film

I got the film on Criterion Blu Ray as a blind buy. And totally fell in love with the whole thing. You know a film is great when you a bit bummed that film doesn't have a longer running time. It's cool to see a Lesbian film that isn't full of drama and someone running off with a man or dying at the end.

It's a bit shame the beautiful Patricia Charbonneau who played Cay didn't go onto bigger things. She's totally charming and charismatic. Also amazing to know she was a few months pregnant during the film. I couldn't notice. If this film was made today a 25 year old Charbonneau would have become a star. Helen Shaver as Vivian is equally great too. I love she goes from a uptight scholar into eye catching beauty as the film goes on as she lets her guard down.

To be fair the whole cast are excellent, from the late Gwen Welles in a tiny role as Cay's friends with benefits and Audra Lindley as Frances, Cay's stepmom. Director/Writer Donna Deitch does an great job keeping the film ticking along and bringing out the best views of the desert. And this film has one of the best sex scenes put to film too without having to go over the top.

Criterion Collection released a wonderful edition of the film a few years back. Go pick it up and wonder how Patricia Charbonneau didn't become a star.
