kids movies in the 80s

star wars came out and science fiction movies were hot. kids movies in the 80s were kind mature natured and the kind of movies suited for adults. serious story lines etc with some sort of adventure. examples Neverending story, Flight of the navigator, the boy who could fly etc

DARYL is another original gem from that time period.

times have change and kids movies today is too much like fairy floss coated in extra sugar.

Completely agreed! I forgot some of the movies you mentioned... I'll check some again!

Many of them were based on the way kids were seen to be more in tune with the future, such as the way they were taking to computers faster than adults.

WarGames
Real Genius
Explorers
D.A.R.Y.L.
Spacecamp
The Manhattan Project

On TV, you had WHIZ KIDS and MAX HEADROOM's Bryce, especially in the episode where he visits his old computer academy and interacts with the even younger kids there.

There's both magic and heart to a lot of the films made in the 1980s that is sorely lacking today. Most kids nowadays would probably be bored watching D.A.R.Y.L. purely because it's pretty slow-paced and doesn't have many special effects. Films today are just dumbed down. Adults could sit down and watch kids films back in the 1980s and be entertained just as much as their children. The storylines were a lot more interesting and usually more mature whilst also being interesting.
