Movie help

Okay, I was browsing through my TV guide and noticed that this movie was on and read the synopsis. Immediately, I thought that it was a movie I used to watch alot growing up in the mid nineties and realized it wasn't The plot sounds quite similar, the few differences is that in the movie I'm looking for; the boy is actually a teenager.
I forget how, but somehow he ends up at a family's home. Included in this family is a teenaged girl who is smittened by the boy. From what I remember, the boy is a mute and at one point during the movie, the family is eating some nasty azz, plain looking spaghetti.
That scene always stood out to me because my sister and I would always wonder who would eat plain spaghetti?
Does anyone know this movie?
