Best comedy ever
Love this film.
The cheesy 80's soundtrack, campest baddy, one liners, explosions, Arnie in peak physical condition.
Classic 80's action

Brainless fun at his best lol
shareAnd just edited so badly and acted so camply plus Arnies usual bad accent, delivery of one liners, and facial expressions...love this. So funny
shareEdited badly? For schlocky action films its edited pretty nice. The cinematography is pretty solid and makes the best of pure 100% physical effects and stunts.
Its simply something you never see in films anymore, especially action films. This is probably the peak of action filmmaking at the cusp of the CGI 'splosion.
It ain't no Coppola film, but its not supposed to be. Still I find no part of the film to be really visually boring or serve no purpose. Its got great pace and the way scenes are chopped together is pretty seamless.
Take this gem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nsm7ArnOGpA
Arnold looks out the window, we then see what he sees, his daughter being driven away matched with the other guy explaining the start of the bad guys' plans. Then Arnold turns back and the camera maintains both a close up zoom on his face and pans across quickly to keep up with him squaring himself for his epic line delivery. Then a cut to the gunshot and an immediate cut to the guy falling out of the chair.
What more do you want? Its perfect, for what it is. Its actually extremely competent and that camera man and the DP for that part of the scene is downright proficient.
Some of the editing is fine....but then you have shots of stuff like....for example.
The car crash into the pole...and them immediately getting out of the car. Always bugged me still to this day when it would have been so easy to change.
Also I might add how bad the movie has him killing so many guys and no one can even hit the guy... He doesn't sneak in Rambo style.... which is why this action film is really truly a comedy.
I think the 6.7 rating is inflated for nostalgia sake. The movie itself is actually pretty terrible. Is it watchable... yes...
I also LOL@ no one driving in the streets at night... no traffic... so many unrealistic situations in this film that it just feels like someone's making a movie for 50% if not more of the time.
He breaks into the surplus store and SO many cops are there... then poof... he's being transferred in 1 vehicle with no backup. Hilarious action sequences indeed. The one liners I can live with....more so than the horrendous situations the characters are put in.
I think it really is at about a 5/10. I loved it as a kid and just re-watched the unrated DC cut....and in HD you can see stunt doubles.... much more of the bad stuff comes out now that I couldn't see on VHS.

You're not discussing cinematography and editing anymore. You're starting to get into the realm of subjective analysis.
Realism? Seriously? This film is obviously deliberately being schlocky. Its trying to be absurd. Its delivering everything we want to see and its not compromising. It is the real life equivalent to a McBain film from the Simpsons. Its glorious.
This film plays it straight but with a wry smile on its face. When you saw Arnold feeding a deer, what did you think the director was trying to tell you about the film?
"I think the 6.7 rating is inflated for nostalgia sake. The movie itself is actually pretty terrible. Is it watchable... yes... "
Put the 6.7 vote away and shut your mouth.
I really love listening to the little pissant posters trying to talk tough. They make me laugh. If Matrix was here, he'd laugh too.

I think at this point our culture is completely unable to resolve what real irony is anymore. We've been so over-ironied that its like an irony inside an irony.
