After killing the other two members of the team all Bennett had to do was not show up for work that morning. I'm sure Matrix's boss would have come to the same conclusion that someone was taking out the team one by one. Was it really necessary to fake his own death?
Kirby wouldn't have come to the same conclusion. He is not the kind of guy that would assume.
There are all kinds of reasons why Bennett might not 'turn up for work'; but people seeing his boat explode - after another of the team is riddled with bullet holes - that is compelling. Plus maybe Bennett wanted to give Matrix a little surprise.
They obviously wanted it to look like Bennett had been killed. Him simply vanishing would probably be too suspicious. Kirby even mentions his death later.
HOWEVER there's no explanation as to why no body was recovered, and if one was, did Bennett kill some random person and hope to pass that body off as his own? The movie doesn't dig too far into it.
The "death" is simply for the audience, regardless of what it did to the story.
HOWEVER there's no explanation as to why no body was recovered
how about the massive explosion? people that knew him saw him getting on the boat before it blew up
theres plenty of reasons for doing it
he could have set up life insurance and had someone collect it for him too.
Did you mean to reply to me? What about the explosion? I certainly hope they didn't come to the conclusion the explosion vaporized Bennett completely.
Kirby mentioned Bennett had been killed, but I don't recall there being any mention of a body to back up that claim. That was the plot hole I was addressing.
