is driving a car really that hard???

No its not.
Its quite daunting the first 2 or 3 times you get behind the wheel, and briefly again when you leave the parking lot/practice area.
But after that, its really exciting.
I thought that whole storyline with Miss Millie was ridiculous. Yes, whites were often cruel during this time period...but they are portrayed not only as 100% vicious here but as stupid!
"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."
Did you arrive here in a time machine? How do you know how difficult or not it was to drive a manual transmission back then? Or what the level of cruelty was that blacks experienced from whites was?
I don't know...

....they sure seemed vicious and stupid back then.
No, it's not hard to drive a car with an automatic transmission but Ms Millie was driving a manual transmission (stick shift)because all cars were stick shift back then and they are complicated. My bother tried to teach me when I was in my teens and although, I know the basics, I still wouldn't feel comfortable taking one on the road, alone.
All typos and misspellings courtesy of a public educational system.
To this day I still can't drive a stick.
shareThey are hardly complicated. Depress the clutch, shift into first, let out the clutch while giving it gas. Engage the clutch and let off the gas, shift into second, let out the clutch and give it some gas. And so on. There's a little bit of coordination between the clutch and the gas, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.
Life is pain. Anyone who says differently is selling something.
Most of us learn to drive when we are young. Its something we all strive to master.
She was older, already afraid, it was manual trans, manual steering. To her... it was that hard.
I hated Ms. Millie..
A poor fragile white woman who was privileged.....
That was how the world treated them while they were on their pedistool of privilege
She didn't know how to relate to anyone who did not look like her.
Just watch her interaction with Sophia and anyone near her except for the white mercantile...she was a complete idiot.
She was a racist who didn't know how to drive...Right now I'm watching this scene where she drives Sophia back home to see her kids...she's screaming her head off during that scene where she's struggling to get her car into the right gear..."I've always been good to you people! I've always been good. Why are you attacking me?""
Seriously?!?
You should have seen me learning to drive a stick shift it made Miss Millie driving look perfect
Slainte 🇮🇪 I am who I am your approval isnt needed or required.
There would be countless people on the roads today who "think" they can drive who would fail at driving a stick.
shareDepends on the car and the person. I just find it kind of funny and ironic that a Sophia had to teach this suppose educated woman how to drive and Sophia couldn't even read a freaking grocery list!
