Why not just donate it all to charity?

He donates some to Charity IIRC, but doesn't give an explanation for why he doesn't just give it all.....though I haven't seen the movie in a long time.

Because his Uncle who set up the stipulations for the entire thing said he can donate 5% to charity and 5% can be gambled.

I thought it must be something like that, but am I remembering wrong or did he not even think of Charity until a female secretary suggested it as an idea?

I think he just asked Angela what her favorite charity was. It's been awhile since I've watched it.

reply

There was another rule: He is not allowed to tell anybody that he is supposed to get rid of the money. So he had the idea by himself and asked the secretary just who should get the money.

reply

As mentioned in other subjects, when he hears Rupert explain the rules, Rupert said he could give some money to charity but not all of it. Same thing with gambling.
