Some Questions

I Have some questions what bank is open at 12:00 am midnight? I assume and understand it is midnight because Edward Roundfield which was the neutral observer made the statement " Gentlemen let's say 12:00 midnight exactly", so there I conclude it is midnight. I want to know if Monty rented a quarter from his accountant then why would he need to make a collect call. I also want to know where in the world it is daylight at 12:00 midnight? I have more which I will put in other postings as I am watching the movie currently.

{what bank is open at 12:00 am midnight?}

I'm sure they made the exception for this instance, since the bank was looking at possibly getting all that money.

{if Monty rented a quarter from his accountant then why would he need to make a collect call.}
Not sure. Perhaps the pay phone still required a quarter to connect to the operator?

{where in the world it is daylight at 12:00 midnight?}
Around the Arctic and Antarctic circles.

Yeah I am sure if I walked into a bank with $300,000,000.00 or had that much in their they would kiss my butt to and I would have the bank President on down contact info LOL.

My experience with pay phones you can connect to the operator just by dialing 0 and of course 911, use to be could call 411 but now they charge for that.

Ah then I need to go to the Arctic and Antarctic circles.

Thanks for the Reply.

I think it was noon and they said 12 midnight exactly as the end point of the month to spend the money

reply

I didn't think it was a bank I thought it was a Law Firm.

The bank was across the street. He said to Monty, "I'm sure you'd like to go across the street to make sure the money is real."

I'm watching the movie right now...I think that the timeline is this:

1. The photographer bailed them out of jail early in the morning.

2. They drove to NYC, still in the morning.

3. Brewster got to the low offices late in the morning.

4. The meeting ended at the stroke of noon. Why Rosenfield suggested midnight instead of noon, who knows.

5. They all went to the bank, just after noon; then they went to lunch - in the early afternoon.

The real question is, why was midnight suggested, other than as a dramatic device?

reply

They weren't at a bank, it was a law office where Brewster had to return to after the month was over and he had spent the 30 million. In regards to the collect call, I think you have to put money in the phone first before you can make a collect call and then they give it back to you.

It was probably noon, rather than midnight in the first case. It was clearly daylight. The bank was open, Brewster went to court a little earlier, etc. When Brewster came back for his final visit, it was clearly night. Angela was at the law office late, etc.

Why did Roundfield want to meet at midnight in the second case? You got me. Perhaps for dramatic effect, that's all I can figure. If he was handing me millions of dollars, I wouldn't care if he was a little weird. I'd be there whenever he told me to be there. No questions asked.

What about the quarter? He probably needed to insert a quarter to get a dial tone on the phone, or to call the operator. (depending on how the pay phone worked) He made his collect call (perhaps because it was long distance) and got the quarter back when he was done. Remember, he returned the quarter to Angela right away, even though he said he didn't have change.
