Better in 1945
I thought the 1945 version, about a penniless soldier home from World War II, is quieter, funnier, and much less racist.

shareHow in the hell was the 1985 version racist?
I swear, every single movie/tv show talked about on IMDB has to have someone screaming racism! I wish you people would just go away already.
Yeah, I'd like to know how this version was supposedly racist, too. I've been watching this movie for years, and I just don't see it.
shareWHO YOU CALLING YOU PEOPLE!!??
HAHA. Just kidding. I couldn't help myself. When talking about racism you can not say "You People". It's not politically correct. The overly sensitive people get upset.
Just watched the 1945 version, and Richard Pryor's version is FAR superior, not only in comedic talent but also in technical execution. At the end if the movie he burns off 450k of the "mere" 1 million he has to spend on an at sea tow into port of the yacht he rented.
And Richard Pryor trying to flirt with the aspiring lawyer turned interior designer was a much better vehicle than a fiancee being held off for two months.
The 80s version is just far superior on every level, except the female lead in 1945 was a total knockout!
