Giving the money to a cause

The rules stated that Brewster could only give 5% to charity, but how about if he gave it to a political cause? For instance, if he gave the money to an organization such as Greenpeace, or even if he used the money to lobby for a political position, would that count as charity and limit him to 5%?

Yes it would. The whole point of the exercise is that he cant give it away. He is supposed to spend it without accumulating assets. Giving it away is forbidden except for 5%.

Exactly. He could have easily figured out what he would need to live on for the month and just give the rest to charity, but that was against the rules and for good reasons.
