If he had some time to think about it..t would be EASY...

..to spend 30 million in 30 days.

He had the right idea..but it took him too long.

1 Go the most expensive hotel and offer 1 million for 30 days...with them proiding food and a lavish lifestyle. - 29 million

2 Pay 100 security guards 100k for the month...already down to 19 million after a mere hour!

3 Hire an advertising rep to buy up all the airtime possible across the country. 100k for the rep and likely 9.9 million EASILY...down to 10 million the first day. What to advertise?...you could have it as static...or...to advertise to the fourth option (below)

4. Rent the most prestigous locations to party each day with a complete staff, additional security, food, expensive wines...only need to spend 300k per day at that point and write in the rest for a tip. You would be sure to have some real fun and then have a fortune 10x as much waiting for you at the end of the month.

"10x the going rate? The manager tells Monty they are being rented out for 100K per week. Using that and that alone (forgetting they are booting people out, not honoring past reservations and that 30 days is more than four weeks) he is only paying 2.5x the going rate."

Then he could rent out other rooms for the same rate and housing some of the security staff. Two more rooms would actually given him more.

"He can't hire 4x as many as you said... he can hire anyone he wants but he has to get value for their services. How exactly could he justify getting value out of 400 security guards?"

Easily. he could be hosting his "none of the above campaign" and political campaigns needs tons of security. For the candidate, the speakers, the event itself, the perimeter, etc.

"Yes, you're an idiot."

I admit its true that many *beep* with an IQ below 100 typically think that way. Glad you weren't left out.

Do you people give any thought what-so-ever to the things you post? Understand, he can't give the money away, he must get value for it. If it was a 31 day month with each security guard working 12 hour days with zero days off he would be paying them each $270 per hour in order for them each to make 100 grand... and that is in 1985. Translates to nearly $600/per in 2014 dollars.

Now I'm no expert on the fine print but it doesn't take a genius to understand the price paid could not be justified.

Geez..a bit testy, aren't we? First off, he paid 1 million dollars for 30 days in a nice hotel so he was paying roughly 10X its going rate. If we use that as a gauge, he could still pay them 25k for the month and just hire 4x as many as I initially said.

So...would the person whose not a genius think that would be more reasonable?

Who says that the price paid has to be justified? He could pay one security guard $30,000,000 for one hour of work. A bit expensive, but where does it say that he can't do that? I didn't see anything in the movie stating that the price he pays for things has to be reasonable.

"You can hire anyone you like but you must get value for their services"

reply

Getting value for their services just means that you can't give the money away. If you hire someone to do a job for you, then you get value for the money you pay them. Even if it costs you $30,000,000 to have your shoes polished, that is still getting value for the money you pay as I see it.

reply

Alright, let's try the entire quote. "You can hire anyone you like but you can't GIVE this money away... you have to get value for their services"

Pretty sure you understand the concept, that you have to get something in the neighborhood of fair market value for the money you spend. 30M for a shoeshine when he could get the same service for a couple of bucks would be giving the money away. Understand there is a written contract that specifically covers all of the rules, his uncle's filmstrip was just stating the general principle of the contest.

I'm hoping you are a troll and that you didn't honestly need that explained to you.

reply

No, $30M for a shoeshine is not giving money away, it is paying for a service.

reply

Troll it is, thanks for clarifying

reply

No it is not. Who are you to determine what is a fair or reasonable price for anything? Things are worth what people are willing to pay for them, that is the way it has always been. If someone is willing to pay $30M for anything, then that thing or service is worth $30M for that person. The fact that other people are only willing to pay less is irrelevant. Things have different values for different people, and I se nothing wrong with someone being prepared to pay whatever price for whatever product or service, and outstanders should not regard themsevles as better knowing, and try to dictate what is fair, reasonable, justifyable etc. The only person who knows that is the buyer.
