Shouldn't Ms. Drake have been classed as an asset by being on retainer?

No, she was an employee of the law firm, but her fee would've been charged to Brewster's account.

Except she was fired prior to Brewster retaining her.

Hmmmm. This is a good question. I guess since she's not really a lawyer yet, she officially can't be counted as being on retainer so he really just gave her $20,000 to go to school. Maybe it could be looked at like he paid her for a service. That service being eventually going to law school so she can eventually represent him?

She wouldn't be any different than any other employee at that point.

Being at least initially a law firm employee, I wouldn't have thought she'd be legally recognized as an asset.🐭
