Who was more evil...

Mr. Vernon "The Breakfast Club"

or

Mr. Rooney "Ferris Bueller"

reply

they weren't principals!!!!

Reading the paper can really be depressing. Mr. Dithers fired Dagwood again.

reply

Vernon's not a principal, or at least a vice-principal?

I don't see why else he'd be overseeing detention.

reply

Actually, they both were

reply

I would say Mr. Rooney. he was far more vindictive and even felonious in his actions.

Mr, Vernon was too apathetic about his nemeses to ever get that obsessed.

don't be fooled. the original question was who was the worse principal. [or something -- but principal was mentioned].

I agree with you that it is rooney. he had a personal vendetta with Buhler who was just cutting class. he didn't set fire to anyone or anything, all he did was change his attendance roster, he didn't change grades like steve sanders. and cushy job where he can 'step away from his desk' on personal business and still get paid.

vern... I think he deep down wanted to care about his job and the kids he had to deal with. notice how when he left the library after the 'mess with the bull you get the horns' incident how he didn't seem pleased. he knew he could have handled that better.

also... he has a point regarding the fact that when he gets old, bender and company will be running the country. and the way bender was at that point... scary. the way Claire was behaving at that point... shallow and self absorbed. the way brian was... a good worker and smart but he would not do well if he had a douchebag of a boss. andy... so he tapes butt cheeks together because his old man keeps on reminiscing of the good ole days regarding the antics he pulled. and Allison... idk if she really is a compulsive liar or what? her 'I didn't have anything better to do' is weird and might have been a lie. or the compulsive liar bit might have been the ONLY LIE she told that day. who knows. but vern did have a point that all these underdeveloped people at that point driving the country's bus a scary thought.

reply

Except Vernon had it wrong. The ones running the country in 30 years would be the high school valedictorians of 1984, not the ones in detention.

reply

Here's the thing; both guys were dicks, but they were actually kinda right. Ferris was cutting class. He was arrogant. Ed Rooney was absolutely on the right side of argument. And though there was more to Bender than he let on, virtually everything Vernon said to him was spot on.

Vernon threatening to assault Bender for running his mouth was unprofessional (and criminal). Vernon's also on a power trip, and basically cornered Bender in the "you want another one?" scene to where he felt he couldn't back down.

reply

stop watching this movie with a 2015 mentality.

I think it's probably both. And the valedictorians who spent some time in detention are probably the most dangerous.

Vernon - for raiding Barry Manilow's wardrobe.

reply

Haha... yes! Perhaps Rooney should have done the same thing, then maybe his pants wouldn't have split so easily.

reply

Not even close
Mr. Rooney was way more evil
Putting so much effort in catching a kid skipping school and breaking into his house.

Mr. Vernon crossed a line but I think being a adult now that I can see he was burned out and sick of being disrespected. Not giving him a free pass because if you can't control yourself with a teenager maybe it's time for a new career.

reply

still can't watch this with a 2015 mentality.

and the only people who say 'time for a new career' like it is that easy to do, is NOT a teacher.

reply

Not saying finding a new career is easy but a middle aged man challenging a 16 year old to a fist fight shouldn't be working with kids at that point.

reply

I take it you have not had your ass handed to you by a first grader. and you are not a stocky male AP.

sometimes it has nothing to do with working with kids. it has to do with what the kids bring to the table.

Maybe Mr. Vernon but then again he wasn't hanging around a student's house

Rooney,

Vernon was not evil a cruel and rough hardass at times yes but i Always got the vibe that he actually does want what's best for the kids under his care even Bender.

Rooney went out of his way to win a personal vendetta with a16 year old kid.

reply

Definitely Ed Rooney. He had a vendetta towards Ferris and would do anything he could to catch him in the act, even if it meant breaking into a student's house. If he had been arrested for that, his career would be over in a minute.

Vernon was just an angry and burned out. As I said in another post, when he started teaching, he was most likely loved and respected by the kids. And like anyone who wanted to further their career, he took an administrative position. Somewhere along the way, the kids started seeing him as the enemy since he became an enforcer rather than the cool teacher everyone liked, which in turn made him bitter, angry and burned out. When he challenges Bender to take a swing at him, that was just a sign of his burn out. Also after piling up Bender with detention and leaving the library, the look on his face is a look of disappointment. It is only when Carl the Wise Janitor, and possibly that letter the kids wrote, gives him some home truths about the person he is.
