Bender's lock of gray hair

Natural? Or done for the film? (I can't see any reason why it'd be done for the film, though.)

I've always found it attractive when people have a little gray in their hair or beard.

i agree. and i also noticed how it was 'stronger' in some scenes and 'weaker' in others.

I think it was real.

Remember he was around 30 during this film and some people develop grey hairs in their 20s, so it's possible.

He was 25.

There was a time when guys in their 20's would add this weird patch of grey or white. I was from that timeframe (class of 85) and thought it was a total douche look. Benders looked almost natural and it sort of fit his character, though. I'm glad someone mentioned Nancy in NOES, as I thought she looked cuter with it.

weird... that show what not to wear has that 'lady' who has a streak of white hair. for her it is considered a birthmark and looked pretty cool considering. but with bender, it being more predominant in some scenes than in others was just poor editing and directing.

I’ve always found that to be attractive, just a single streak without going full blown on one color for the entire head of hair. I’ve been lucky to just have a few specs of grey at close to 50, but that’s genetic. Bender may have been going for a punk thing, but a Mohawk may have been more appropriate.

He was 24 when the movie was FILMED.

I got my first white hair at 13. It's hereditary, my brother got it that early too and we inherited it from our father who also got his first white hair at 13. But even as early as that, there was a guy at school who at 14, 75% of his hair was white.

But the actor here was 25-26 filming, so far from 30.

Around 30? WHAT? He was born in 1959 and the movie was filmed in early 1984. He was still 24 when this movie was filmed, NOT 30!

You're probably thinking of another John Hughes character, Cameron Frye from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Alan Ruck, who played him, turned 30 the year the movie came out.

My mom once mentioned to me that when she was a teenager (in the 80's) some people added a streak of silver or gray for fashion purposes. She told me she knew a couple teens who did it. Also irony, I suppose lol. Not sure if it was real, but I can't imagine them leaving in a natural gray streak for someone playing a high schooler. So I definitely believe my mom's theory about it.

It looks a bit blue in most scenes. I think it's supposed to be a punk thing or something like that to underline Bender's badass attitude.

Most likely a leftover from home-use hair dye at some stage, maybe for going to a gig last month and he's too badass/lazy/bad at self-colouring to fully conceal it.
Just adds to his general persona.

Or might be the remnant of some paint spilled in the garage... 
