Detention on a SATURDAY ? Never happens. No logic at all.

Saturday detentions seem to be less common these days but they were still a thing back when I was in high school (graduated in 2005). Pretty sure there are still some schools doing them.

I was given a Saturday detention for skipping two weekday detentions. I skipped the Saturday one too, then they kind of ran out of ideas...

Are you kidding??? I been sent twice.

Absolutely.

I went to a school for a time that gave it to you for having hiccups. They did prefer in-school-suspension though where you couldn't do class work, couldn't read your text books, couldn't write on a piece of paper, then you'd go home.

Then you couldn't turn in the homework that you never got so you'd get ISS again. After 3 days of ISS, you did Saturdays.
Full school day on a Sat. You'd normally copy the Encyclopedia backwards starting at a random page. The whole time. With a 10 minute break for lunch. No bathroom breaks. They would check for mistakes and you'd have to do it again if you did.
This is outside of lunchtime detention and after school detention of course.

I was a complete goody-two-shoes nerd and I was still in ISS all the time. I once had after school detention because I didn't have a pen for English class. I had a pencil, but no pen. I also had the same thing for Math. I had a pen, but no pencil. I had to keep a large stash of both at all times just to avoid detention.

I had lunch detention for a week for commenting on a Mozart piece we were listening to in music class quietly under my breath. It was literally a comment. It wasn't silly or mean-spirited.

Some schools are mean.

I served a Saturday School in the late 90’s.

Remember that the principal was a hard-ass. He probably saw it as a true punishment to have to have these kids to give up a Saturday just to sit in a library and write an essay on an impossible subject.

Saturday detention, 8am to noon....twice....screw that, I’d take the suspension and my mom’s wrath, which is what happened to me...good times!

reply

I'm living proof. I can't even remember how many Saturday school detentions I had. It wasn't 8 hours though, only 4. My high school career was littered with after school detention, Saturday schools and ISS (in-school suspension).

ISS sounds totally senseless.

It's just you, other naughty students and a teacher in one room all day long. We got two 15 minutes breaks and a half hour lunch. Boring as hell.
