I thought Pinocchio was scarier.

I know some people say this film is darker than the average Disney film. Yes, I will agree that there are some spooky bits, but in no way is it scarier than Pinocchio since there were more disturbing images in that film and, on top of that, none of the villains get their comuppence.

Me too, Pinocchio gave me nightmares when I was little, I'm 21 now and it still freaks me out.

"Pinocchio" never scared me except that part where The Coachman's face turned devilish, that scared the hell out of me when i was 2 back in 1984 when i had it on video. Anyone here remembers the 1987 animated feature "Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night"? now it's just as scary and dark as "Black Cauldron" and scared me crapless when i was 5 seeing it at a theater after christmas, it had this horrifying sequence where Pinocchio is being tortured and slowly changing back into a puppet as he screams his lungs out in agony.

Now that's the stuff nightmares are made off.

YES! I remember that! Oh my god I must have seen that when I was three, but ever since then I somehow came to the conclusion that it was a horrific nightmare I dreamed up but it's actually real! The entire thing's on youtube!

Pinocchio was scarier, because with The Black Cauldron, I knew it was supposed to be scary, so I was okay with being scared. Skeletons, okay, demons, okay, they're meant to be scary.

Pinoccio had that surreal, wierdness to it that made me wonder, "Am I, uhm, supposed to be scared or not??" The whole thing freaked me out, and I wasn't sure if it was "ok" to be scared by it. It was confusing, and I still can't stand Pinocchio in any form – book or movie.

Well, I liked the cat, Figaro.

Pinocchio is simply the best Disney movie ever. The animation and flow of dark and light elements was perfect and it is just a great story of human emotions and what it is that makes us "real". In many ways it is a story about the very genesis of life. We are all puppets made of pine until we develop our courage, truth and love. Only when we feel these things do we become real.

This movie is not scary in the least. I was scared of practically everything when I was little, even stupid stuff like the queen turning into a witch in "Snow White", but this movie never scared me. Not to say I didn't like it, just saying it didn't scare me. In fact, when I was little I loved this movie. Especially the little furry guy. I haven't seen it since I was 4, but I have fond memories of it. I recently got the book for free when our library didn't want it anymore. Can't wait to read it. :)

Although I'll admit, even then I thought it had a cliche plot.

I have nothing witty to say here.

To the original OP, what's so scary in Pinocchio? I guess I missed those parts. But yeah 'Cauldron' isn't so scary either although I think the Horned King is probably one of Disney's creepiest villains.

Did you catch the scene where the Coachman does that closeup while plotting with Honest John and Gideon? The one where he has that huge devilish grin on his face? And also the scene where Lampwick turns into a donkey was pretty disturbing.

Yes, I actually just got done watching the movie again. I still don't find it scary, but however it is a bit sad. Feel so sorry for Pinocchio.
