SAD NEWS FOR THIS SPECIAL EDITION :(

Hi there everyone, I just got off the phone with buena vista home entertainment, after speaking to the represenative Lanna, I found out that as of March this year DISNEY DECIDED TO BACK OUT OF RELEASING THE BLACK CAULDRON
I think this is a horrible and vile thing to do to a bunch of fans who have their hearts set on seeing this movie. I personally would pay just for the new bonus features. However if they take their time to get this dvd ready with as many bonus features as possible, and things like commentaries and such. But as the rep said, as of march 2009 disney decided to take it off the list of items for the year.
So that is what we are stuck with as far as news.
Makes me angry and sad.

Doesn't surprise me. Disappointing yes, but not surprised.

Did they say there decided ot back out of releasing it for good, or for the time being. Some other guy on another forum said that he was at some convention and one of the guys mentioned the special edition not being out for another 6 months. Either way, it looks like we'z gonna have to wait.

Get a load of this!!!

reply

I wouldn't mind the wait if I knew for certain that it was comming out.
The Disney Marketing Dept is full of stuffed shirt idiots who wouldn't know how to put together a real special edition if it meant their lives or paychecks depended on it, I take that back they might get their a$$e$ in gear if their paychecks were threatened a bit.
You know what this title deserves to have a 2disc edition as well as blueray release. Sell me and the public the history of this film, I mean for the love of dvd and blueray don't these effing morons understand that this was the first and the true first animated film that the new animators who took over after the nine old men were done. These artist are the ones who came up with the little mermaid, rescuers downunder, aladdin, lion king, pocahontas and many many more durring what was know as the golden age of disney.
Hell if not for this film perhaps the artist never would have found their creative pathes in this world.

ATTENTION DISNEY MARKETING MONKIES
If you are reading this my name is Cliff Dillon
and I am willing to bet everything I own everything I know that I could do your jobs better by myself than you have done since you climbed your way up the corp lader kissing butt. So listen up and listen good, if you want your dvds to do well on the market than give people what they want. Give them the commentaries they crave, remember when disney was for families, yeah well I do. People want to see the deleted scenes and better yet people want to have the option of watching these scenes in the movie. We want to see all the kooky little things that were happening around that time, examp, toy lines, movie tickets, premiers, audience views, tv spots, theatrical trailers, music that was not used, abandon concepts for the film.
Some of these that are known to the public are as such and are still fully animated because when the company came into new managment in the early 80's
the film was viewed and roughly 8-12 minutes of the films was ordered to be cut do to the fact that it was deemed to graphic or scarry for kids.
Well now those kids are adults and we have kids of our own and we want to see these things. Selling the public crappy bonus features such as (a new game) give me break disney you need to get your crap together and listen to what the people want. A stupid man who ran disney once said, when people are out there watching movies like shrek.prince of egypt, and other films they think wow disney did a great job, and it doesn't matter because disney still gets the credit, yeah well they sure as hell don't get the money from the movie, and the truth is people associate disney with great films and going all out for everything they do. Its sad that disney has the ability to make such a great blow out for this movie, to add scenes and features that would blow away everything and anything around it, and instead they sit around licking each other like stupid worthless dogs.
Perhaps I'm wrong but the only way I'll ever know is if the company who I had such hope and faith in shows and prooves me wrong.
and believe me I really hope you do.
You did when it came to Pocahontas 10th aniv

Dear Ollie last time I checked America is a Free counry and I can say what I want. Also who care if I misspelled one word. The fact is I have every right to gripe and complain. Disney Marketing is a bunch of idiots who don't know how to market anything other than lion king, nightmare before christmas, and princess stuff... ok there are a couple more but they are milking them to death.
Also zakima2 is just a name and nothing less, kinda like Ollie-rocks, whos to say if you do or do not. Also I am not moaning about it I am voicing myself.
And to let you know yes as a matter of fact Disney does patrol boards like these, I have actually since writting my rant spoken with a few members of the marketing team in Burbank and truthful they are actually nice people.
They look at thing like IMDB and other sites to see what people are interested in.
So before you judge my complaints which you clearly did, I ask that you understand where I am comming from, I own every Disney film, including the ones that are not released here in the USA, I spend money on films from other countries just for their bonus features.
I have every release from VHS,Laserdisc, and Dvd and now BluRay... so yes Ollie when I am spending a couple thousand dollars per year on movies I prefer that they have something new and refreshing... I can't speak for you, but you seem like you come from somewher that is really repressed and I find that sad.
I like to voice my oppinion and if I misspell a few words here or there so be it.
Also if you think I am clogging up the boards with my half assed moans(you mis-spelled half assed by the way)
Look this is not a spelling bee so just chill.
Would you light my candle?

What? Okay, now I REALLY think they're acting like that movie never existed! >8(

Say, does anybody know how I can contact those buffoons and TRY to convince them to at least release it uncut?

reply

ok so i just got some news courtesy of ultimatedisney.com-----A scoop from the Disney Store informs us about eight titles set to return to the Disney Vault next January: the live-action and animated versions of 101 Dalmatians, their respective sequels, The Jungle Book and The Jungle Book 2, Sleeping Beauty's Platinum DVD and Blu-rays, and The Black Cauldron: Gold Collection, which will be replaced by its already-promoted Special Edition, but not until June 2010.

reply

The Black Cauldron won't til June 2010? Awww that really sucks! I was really looking forward to getting it. They didn't say what month though when they had a preview for it on one of the DVDs. But...really? 101 Dalmatians and 102 Dalmatians go back into the Vault next year? Yikes! I gotta remind myself to buy them quick if they're still around at the stores. I hate it when they have them only for a limited time!

I think it's crappy that Disney pushed it back but 2010 just happens to be the 25th anniversary. It would be cool if they give us a 25th anniversary edition will all of the controversial deleted scenes

reply

Ok. It's a few more months. That's not too bad.

Hopefully, it'll be a real special edition. Not like the ones we got for The Aristocats and Fox and the Hound were all they did was slap an extra cartoon short and called it a special edition.

I mark out for CM Punk.

reply

Well, it's place on the schedule means that there is basicly a new classic being released every two months: Dumbo (SE), FANTASIA / FANTASIA 2000 (Platinum Edition), Black Cauldron (SE), then Beauty And The Beast (Platinum Edition).

As for a cartoon, the original cartoon that was originally released with The Black Cauldron, which name eludes me now would be nice to see in the Disney re-relaese. It sure wasn't that Trick or Treat cartoon.

Ollie, just because poison happens to exist is no excuse to commit murder with it.

As of this writing (MON. June 28th, 2010), there doesn't appear to be any 'extra features' worth writing home about ...
