Can anyone compare both movies? Both are very dark animated fantasy movies that scared kids back then in the 80's and are epic cult animated movies.

In terms of animation quality, there's no contest. Emperor of the Night was produced by a tv animation studio, Filmation, who made also sequels to Wizard of Oz and Snow White. I like both but I would say Filmation's He-Man was the real challenger to Black Cauldron. I'm sure many parents saw the BC trailer and thought it was essentially what their kids watched on tv for free. But BC is pure medieval/Tolkien whereas He-Man was a mix of fantasy and scifi.
