Taryn didn't need to give up the sword
The witches took Gurgi's apple core after he offered to exchange it, so by fair trade rules they should have gotten the cauldron for it.

shareOH MY GOD YOU'RE RIGHT!
XD Gurgi is the true hero :)
The sword broke a lot of their pots, so he still had to reimburse them for the damages lol
"Who's there? State your name, rank, and favorite brand of cereal!"
The witches also seemed to be the type who would only take something that would match the worth of the thing being traded. Although it was a sweet exchange, an apple core hardly matches to the worth of an extremely powerful cauldron of dark magic.
They also aimed to trick Taryn into having the cauldron that he couldn't use for something better than the cauldron. They appeared to have the trade rigged to their advantage.
