I regretfully inform you this film wasn't shot, even remotely or nearly, in the Philippines. I love this film since I was a kid, but never did it come to me that the setting or location was in the Philippines. Only here in IMDB that I found out that the setting was (supposed to be) in the Philippines. Not even close.
I've been to different U.S. camps in the Philippines, but they don't come close to that in the movie.
Additonal Facts:
* In the movie, they drove at the left side of the road. Not in the Philippines.
* They have different plate numbers.
If they did, probably just a small portion was shot in the Philippines. Not the party, not the beach, not the town...I don't know what though.
Thanks for your post, I think it might be a hard one to find.

"American Ninja" was absolutely shot in the Philippines. A huge part of the reason is because it was really cheap to shoot there. And they could basically explode all the crap they wanted to. This is Cannon we're talking about here. The Cannon Group of Golan and Globus shot a bunch of their action pictures there: the "Missing in Actions", "P.O.W. The Escape", among others.
shareThe Philippines, was used a lot in the 70's with the likes of Al Adamson and Eddie Romero producing alot of gringhouse films there.
I don't know where EXACTLY it was filmed, but I guarantee that all of it was filmed in the Phillipines. My dad played Victor Ortega and I promise that's true.
shareIf you can find out that will be really appreciated.
Thanks
Roly
I doubt he can, the actor is dead. (If his father really was Victor Ortega).
shareAre you saying that maybe hmbsvmd really isn't Generva Stewart? (if she isn't, I'll lose all trust in IMDb submitters).
shareA lot of Post apocalyptic mad max rip off were filmed there too. There was one particular directer churned loads of em out!
sharehey that guys got my username!
comin in here 6 years ago...mutter mutter
The poster above who said this wasn't shot in the Philippines is an idiot. It absolutely was (all the Cannon films that deal with Vietnam used the Philippines as a stand-in, and this film was another Cannon movie that took advantage of the cheap location). Steve James even mentioned in an interview that he enjoyed filming there.
1 - Philippines.
2, 3, 4 - South Africa.
5 - We pretend it doesn't exist.
