All I remember is that a man wakes up from cry to find himself in a small village, that earth is basically an agrarian society. There's a prison ship being sent into the sun, the citizens of earth explore space through astral travel, and they had these lights made out of fireflies

Anyone?

That sounds like "Quarantine" Season 1, Episode 17. There was no prison ship being sent into the sun, but there was a shuttle ship of inhabitants returning to Earth that the man was tricked into destroying.

That sounds correct. Scott Wilson (Hershall from The Walking Dead) is in it.
