Quick Question

In some eps, they tell Vici that she's a robot and in others they tell her she's not a robot.

The Lawsons keep saying "Treat her like a nomral child," but they really don't do that too often.

Is it just me, or is it the writing?

It's definately the writer's fault. While I love this show, I always find it fascinating to locate, and analyze it's faults, mostly because I love the idea of making Small Wonder a truly accurate, and realistic sci-fi show.

Small Wonder had about 5, or 6 different writers, including Dick Christie, who played "Ted Lawson", during it's 4-season run, who more or less took turns, seemingly at random. This in itself creates inconsistancies. The other problem you'll find, is that the writers often disregarded the standards set forth in the "Small Wonder Bible", which aimed to provide a "can do", "can't do", "could do", "shouldn't do" set of rules for Vicki on the show. Mostly, this disembarkment from the "rules", was done for no better reason than to get a quick, emotional response fromt he viewer, at the expense of consistancy, and even sheer feasability.

Ted will always remind his family, especially Joan, that they have to stop considering her to be a real child, but at the same time, they ought to interact with her as if she was a real child, if her system is to learn how to emulate a child.

I only remember one episode in which the Lawson's tell Vicki that she's NOT a robot. This was done for cheap, emotional thrills.

I remember that ep. She was written about in a news paper. And VICI didn't sound like her robot self when she said it, either. It was a child asking a parent.
