She did know them. In the episode where Lyle Alzado was in, she knew him and according to him, she also knew the pope. It would be assumed that she did know them judging by that scene.

There was an epsisode where the late Lyle Alzado guest starred and they used him to test her. Dick asked if she knew him and she said she did and then they brought him in from the other room and he said, "Ida Mae! Great to see you!" Guess she wasn't lying after all.
