Why was Vikki created in the first place?
I always thought that Vikki was created by the Dad as a companion for their son, Jamie. Is that right? Or was their another reason? Just curious.

The first episode explains it. Haven't you seen it yet ? it's on DVD. I haven't seen the show since 1985. I was a kid and I saw many episodes from 85 to 89.
Ted Lawson DID NOT create Vicky to be Jamie's sister. He made VICI to help children with special needs and disabilities. She was originally supposed to be a sort of useful human assistant. She had a "maid" quality and they did use her to help around the house - open jars, open doors, etc. I think Ted wanted her to help people who were handicapped and could not do basic things like answer the phone or open a door.
But as time went by, she did become a "sister" to Jamie and also a daughter to Joanie and Ted. She became part of their family and became more and more human as the show progressed.
