Edie McClurg....

I TOTALLY forgot she was on the show. I mean, I remember her most from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", and "Planes, Trains and Automobiles".

In fact, her last line in "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" is one that I would NEVER expect Bonnie Brindle to say!

What line was that ? I was a kid in the 80's and didn't understand grown up jokes (unlike today's kids who are way too adult even as kids). I did see Small Wonder and loved it's charm and all the incredible things Vicki could do. I never missed an episode between 1985 and 1989. I now understand the jokes that I didn't as a kid now that I've watched the DVD.

I have been able to follow Edie's career. She is the single most successful actress on Small Wonder, she had success post- Small Wonder. She was great in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I haven't seen too many of her movies but I do know she does a voice in Disney's The Little Mermaid. She played Carlotta Prince Eric's maid who lives in the castle. She was also in an episode of Malcolm In The Middle, a 2000's Fox TV comedy that has been cancelled for some years now.

Edie has a distinct voice and I will always remember her from Small Wonder, especially when she would say:

" NO NO NO NO NO!"

It was the scene where Neal Page (played by Steve Martin) ranted and raved at the car rental attendant (played by Edie McClurg). I mean, I think every other word from Neal was the 'f' word. I'll set it up:

Attendant : "Do you have your rental agreement?"
Page : "I threw it away!"
Attendant : "Oh dear."
Page : "Oh dear what?"

Attendant : "You're f&#^ed!"

My favorite role for Edie was Chastity Pariah in Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (the movie).

I particularly remember how she disappeared from the show and we only saw Harriet's dad and aunt Ida (who didn't like to be touched and was friends with Lyle Alzado) played by Alice Ghostley. When she popped up as Mrs. Poole on Valerie, it all made sense.
