FORMER KIDS OF THE 80'S POST HERE

I bought the DVD of Season 1. Wow. I traveled through time. I hadn't seen this show since I was very small. I was a kid in the 80's. Small Wonder was one of the first non-cartoon shows I watched. It was a great show for kids. But you have to be of the 80's to appreciate it and even love it. Kids today and even 90's kids would not appreciate it. The nostalgia factor is heavier for kids who were there in the 80's watching Small Wonder. It took me back to 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989. That was the run of the show. I was in Chicago and saw the whole show's series. I loved it. I absolutely loved it.

This show proves without a doubt how much family entertainment and television has changed since the 80's. It's been like over 25 years and TV has changed so much. It feels like 100 years ago. But Small Wonder is such a classic and a great one and I'm glad I was alive and watching the show when it was on TV.

I will share a startling experience. Watching episode 3 (the episode in which Vicki babysits Jamie, a unusual thing happened. When Jamie gives Vicki the liquid he made to drink and her voice changes into that weird, messed up tone, I was frozen. I literally felt as if I was no longer in my present 2010 living room. I was now a kid in 1985 in my parents' Chicago living room. I literally went back in time. I felt the years disappear and I remembered the precise second-minute moment when I heard Vicki talk that way. It was scary even. And then sad because so much time has passed.

I didn't get the "adult" humor that is spliced in at times. Now I see what they meant. Joanie and Ted were very sexual! Their conversations implied that they had a great sex life. So great to see a happy married couple who were sexually happy. This show had a great script, lots of jokes and felt good watching it. There was a lot more innocence and charm then. It was almost like a 1950's part 2. This show might have even worked in the 1950' in black and white but I'm glad they made it for the 80's.

I love this show so much so much you wouldn't believe. Small Wonder is my childhood. The 80's was the best time in all the world's history.

I will love the 80's even when I'm close to being dead.

So if you're a former kid of the 80's and loved watching Small Wonder, post here.

I am another child of the 80s and enjoyed taking the trip down memory lane watching the Small Wonder DVD. Though my memories of the show weren't as vivid as yours, I certainly enjoyed it as a kid. I enjoyed revisiting the show on DVD, but didn't have that feeling of being transported back to another time in my childhood. I know exactly what you mean though, because it has happenned to me watching other shows from the 80s.

I agree that television has changed a whole let since the 80's. Children watching it today wouldn't enjoy it. Adults watching it now for the first time probably wouldn't get it either. Small Wonder is one of those shows that has to be enjoyed in the contest of what it meant to us when we watched it. That's probably why it has the reputation amongst non fans that it does.

====>There might be some truth to this one, my roomie's nine year old kid LOVES Punky Brewster. I have the complete series on DVD and she'll play the ENTIRE thing about twice a year. Something like 50 hours. Drives me BATS#$ insane. However, this show is not holding her attention.

I can tell you that the messages that even Punky Brewster is trying to get across are far better than that Hannah Montana crap they are passing off as entertainment today. Along with Political Correctness, but don't even get me started on that one.

So if you're a former kid of the 80's and loved watching Small Wonder, post here.

Well...I don't know if I would qualify. Born in 1975, so I was 4 and 14 in the 1980s. So, I was around; just didn't understand a bit of it.

I was BIG into the music of the 80s, and I still am. I am constantly downloading 80s favourites from iTunes.

TV? I watched a few shows (mainly cartoons), but didn't really get into non-cartoon shows until the latter part of the decade. Whatever my parents were watching, that's what was on.

Movies? Again, I watched a few of the classics. Wasn't really big into movies.

Anyway, one of the shows I watched was "Small Wonder". To be quite honest, I really enjoyed it when it was on (which wasn't that often).

A couple of months ago, I saw the first season available on DVD when I was killing time at Best Buy. I thought this is one that I have to get.

I bought the first season this week. I watched the first disc last night. It works out well because each episode is only about 20 minutes.
It's so addictive. I hadn't realized that I watched the whole first disc!

I watched the first episode of the second disc, which was "The Lie". I can't wait to watch the next episode, which is "The Bully".

If there were any decade I could revisit, it would be the 80s.

born in late 78 here, i first caught the show when i was around 8 and remember liking and laughing at it. i watched it recently on Youtube clips and honestly, it definitely dose NOT stand the test of time. despite its many, many faults i still like the show for the nostalgia it brings to me (talented star tiffany brissette is really the only one that keeps the show from falling apart).

I think the 80s were the best years in time. Granted I was born in 1972, I still found myself very very much an 80's child. I watch 80's commercials on youtube and definately Small Wonder. It takes me back to when I lived with my father in California. It was such a great show for me. It worked for me. However my stepsister who was 4 years older than me didnt get it and said it was stupid over all. To each his own I guess. I LOVED IT. Still do
