Referenced on 'American Dad'....

Watching "American Dad" last night, Stan and Francine delve into Roger's subconscious. There is a TV screen that has the caption "Year 1984" (or something like that).
Roger is trying out for the part of Vicki (VICI) on "Small Wonder". Needless to say, he didn't get it.

So, that's 2 of the 3 shows by Seth MacFarlane that he has made a reference to "Small Wonder".
The first was in "Family Guy", when the main cast was at a convention. In the distance, there read a banner that said something to the effect of "Meet Tiffany Brissette, TV's Small Wonder".

All there needs to be is a reference in "The Cleveland Show" for the hat trick. This show seems the least likely for a reference. However, I wouldn't put it past good old Seth to make a reference.

how about a reggie reference for cleveland

That could work.

Then again, Rallo (youngest child) is definitely a younger version of Reggie.

Having said that, how many would remember the character of Reggie on "Small Wonder"? That is, other than the superfans like you and I?

Seth Macfarlane is in his late 30's and he definitely remembers the 80's very well. He was a teenager by the time the 80's ended, and had grown up in that decade. He was born in the early 70's. This is why 80's and 90's references show up in his cartoons so much. It was a great era - the 80's and 90's and he knows there are so many out there who loved the 80's and 90's and grew up then and appreciate the references. Me for one. I was a kid in the 80's and teenager of the 90's so those two decades and it's pop culture I am very familiar with.

You just have to have been there in the 80's and 90's and old enough to understand what was going on to appreciate the references. Kids of the 2000's period (2000 to 2010) might see Family Guy but never understand the 80's and 90's references.

I whole-heartedly agree with you, FloatingOpera7.

Seth is only a year and a half older than I am. Makes me wonder what I could have done with MY life.....

Oh well.

Same thing for the music of the 80s. In fact, a couple of new songs come to mind:

"Check It Out" by will.i.am and Nicki Minaj
"The Time (Dirty Bit)" by the Black Eyed Peas

"Check It Out" features a sample of "Video Killed The Radio Star" by the Buggles.
"The Time (Dirty Bit)" features the lyrics of "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" by Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley.

I bet kids of now won't get that these "new" songs have samples or lyrics from songs of the 80s. Actually, "The Time (Dirty Bit)", they might get.
