Fireplace in the kitchen??

Maybe it's just me...but looking back on the show, it's weird that there was a fireplace in the kitchen! Does anyone else agree?

There was quite a few houses on HGTV shows with fireplaces in the kitchen.....I would love to have one in my kitchen.

They had one in the master bedroom too didn't they?
Personally I don't like fireplaces because they tend to be located where the entertainment system and big screen ought to go.

The master bedroom appears to be made from the same set as the living room. It has the same bay windows and the same closet.

But I finally noticed the fact they have multiple fireplaces because in the Thanksgiving episode, Joan said she thought it'd be nice to have a fire in the fireplace after dinner and my first thought was "which one?"

California, I believe. They drove to Los Angeles/Hollywood with their car in the final episode so I'm guessing around that area.

I'm guessing they had multiple fireplaces in the event they needed to heat their home, but only in certain areas.

In that case, why would they need even a single fireplace?
