Do they just hire singers now instead of actors?

Madison most obvously (her acting is PAINFUL), but Ben and Angus are obviously professional singers too. What are the chances that they'd all end up on the same street?

reply

They seem to be obsessed with trying to launch another pop star. As much as Kylie attracts me to her work, the Madison chick scares me away.

reply

Madison's singing is as painful as her acting, I'm so glad she's gone.

There has always been a lot of cross in to the music world with Neighbours - and of course we are harking back to the Kylie days here, and also that of Jason, Guy and Stefan; as well as the Blakeney twins, all whom at some point dabbled in music.
So it's not that entirely new in concept. And you will find that most actors, are profiecent enough in music to be able to at least carry a tune - although Sarah Ellen sounds like a screeching cat (and I'd much rather listen to Draggy McDrag from Glee, and that's saying a lot, because I despise their voice as well!!)

and of course back in the 80's there was a lot of them going on another Channel 10 studio show - Young Talent Time.

this one been very early, in around 1987!!!

That video just makes me feel... wistful. I wish I could see that kind of excitement over a "Neighbours" ensemble now. A friend of mine was telling me just how big it actually was. We were producing an album together and then we'd go and have lunch and I'd sit there and start talking about "Neighbours" haha, and he told me his ex actually used to write the little synopses that you'd get with the episodes in the TV guide magazines. And how it was so big. And everyone was going out and eating Chinese because of Paul and Gail's deal with Mr Udagawa haha. It was massive. Something I can't experience now. I was BORN during the first year of the show, actually on the same night as the SEASON FINALE when it had been cancelled on Channel 7. Turn on your TV now and see Tyler Paige and Piper or whoever singing on something like "Young Talent Time"? Not going to happen really. There was this goofy hilarious clip of them all singing in Mrs Mangel's house one time, even Alan Dale as Jim hahaha. I had to wonder what his reaction would be if he saw that now.

Is 08 was Ty Harper who played by Dean Geyer who was Runner up in Australian idol
Rachael Kinski (Caitlin Stasey) was a singer

Sam Clark (Ringo Brown) left neighbours for careear in music can't remember if ever made Ringo singer on the show or not

dont know if Saskia Hampele (Gorgiea Brooks) is a singer or just tried make her character one

Than of Crouse was Ninna Tucker (delta goodrem)

And natalie bassingthwaighte (Isabelle Hoyland) funny thing with Izzy tho was they made the character bad Singer

And pretty sure alan fletcher (Karl kennedy) a singer

Just a few off top of my head. Madison reminds me a lot of Sienna Cammeniti. Both terribly act out characters both became singers and both left the show for a boyfriend named Logan

The Delta one was amazing for me. I remember that vividly. That song was just INSANE. When I heard that song, I was like. Just wow!!!! I really liked the new one she did last year too, for the 30th. But I've only ever heard it the once.

Back in the day, there was actually quite a few of the YTT kids who once left the show went on to be on Neighbours!!!
I was kind of obcessed with YTT - and I wanted to be on the show SO BAD!!!!! But it just had to go and get cancelled the year I was finally allowed to go to the Johnny Young Dance school!
I literally cried my eyes out for days when I found it was cancelled. (It started to get poor ratings, because Hey Hey it's Saturday moved in 1988 from it's morning time slot, yes it use to be on of a morning!!! To that of the same time as YTT on rival channel, Channel 9. Although it was never on that in my house, as I was always adamant even at my young age, YTT rules, no buts!!)

But Neigbours characters that were once YTT members are as follows:

Mark Stevens - played Nick Page 1988-1990 (and so weird that I now talk with him on Facebook, really nice guy and he is now a creative director of a church in the UK; he got heavy into drugs after he left the show, and Christianity helped him turn his life around!)

Courtney Compagnino - played Natasha Kovac 1990
and her younger sister Sheridan who also sung a few times on the show (and it was John's dream to have her join the team and have the first lot of sisters in the show who were both regulars at the same time together!) played Amy Robinson #2 in 1992.

Jamie Churchill - played Lenny Carver 1992-1994

Joe Perrone (or Joey as he was known during the YTT years) - played Gino Rossini in 1987.

And I couldn't see the format for YTT ever working again - what Johnny did was unique and the disaster that was the 2012 reboot, well I wish to erase that from my mind FOREVER!!!

It's one of those shows that I wish to remain my childhood memory and sadly never achieved dream!!!

I, along with about the entire teenage female (and likely some male) population at the time had the hugest crush on Joey Perrone.

Yes, the reboot was a very bad idea. I love Rob Mills to bits - I even met him after a show once and he was so nice! - but that was a bad idea.

Oh that sucks :( Well, my friend who I mentioned was going to be Meat Loaf in a big show here in the 90s, right around the same time as "Bat out of Hell 2" which was massive. That was like Meat's Elvis comeback or something. And "I'd do anything for love" was Number 1 in about 28 countries. Well, he was going to do it at that point on TV here in Australia. And then they pulled the plug because they ran out of money. Fast forward about twelve years, he eventually got to do it with Channel 9 and ended up getting the judge's award. He was telling me at lunch too, how you were just so aware that all these people would be watching you, and you had this POWER. At any moment you could have pulled something and millions of people would have been watching. But you would wonder what it would have been like when it was "Bat 2" and that era. Anyway, thanks for the update about Mark Stevens. He sings at the end of the "Neighbours" 1000th episode special, and he was one of those actors/characters I've wondered about over the years, so cool. Now I know what actually happened to him. I did come across his girlfriend on the show, Sharon (remember her haha), played by Jessica Muschamp. Can't remember if I was able to send a message or not, but I would like to. Those guys came in right after that big wave with Kylie and Jason and all that. Guy was still there obviously.

The one I speak with sometimes is the woman who played Julie Martin! Omg! Which was epic to me because of that character! And she LIKED my idea about Julie's ghost too!!!

reply

No way, haha! Yesterday I was just thinking...'who writes these synopses?' I bet that's a wicked job!

reply

I didn't ask how they got it either. But they had that inside information because they had to write it all up for the magazines.

reply

If you find out who writes the Netflix ones, slap in them from me...they are *beep*

Mark was an amazing singer - I loved him back when he was on YTT and he just had one of those voices you could listen to for ages.
And I think my YTT crush probably would have been Vince Del Tito. 
Funny thing now his fiancee is DJ Havana Brown.
And for those who are interested - this is a pilot for a show that Vince did along with Tim Nelson (who I have also met, since we both have worked with Melbourne Gang Show) for a show called "Evolution" - it was going to be a kind of YTT show back in the early 2000's - and Angelique, is actually now Havana! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQ3R_hTmMOY
And there are also some other very cool things as well in the talent show - two twin sisters, who are now known as "The Veronicas"

And also as well this is a link to all of the Christmas songs from the release they did for a Neighbours album https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClNTwuDYjSE&list=PLvTMKy8y8WlKLlPjMxey7KJKvlQA_yyFj

And seriously Dean Geyer on Glee just pissed me off - for the most part that show pissed me off, and in the end I was only watching because I adore Darren Criss, and loved him before Glee; thanks to Starkid and a little something called the Harry Potter musicals. (although what they did to the character of Blaine and the whole gayness of the whole show, makes me literally want to vomit at the sheer thought of it, and I pretty much now call Ryan Murphy the "DEVIL"). But the character of Brody - was just , I pretty much have made that character a total douchebag in the story I wrote using the Glee characters, because of this!!

I think I remember Mark too, but I didn't know he went onto Neighbours.

Vince was cute too, but Joey was more my type.

I was pissed off by Dean Geyer too but I was still into the show at that time (actually I'm one of those rare people who actually liked it all along, but oh did I have to rewrite things in my head a lot). But Brody was awful.

reply

Yes, Natalie Imbruglia, the original Lauren did singing and presented a TV show called fully booked, over here.

Pop and aussie soaps are like strawberries and cream, apples and pie, or ham and eggs. I guess then it went neighbours first, singing after, but I'm not too fussed about the order.

Least Ben and Angus can act.

reply

I think we have to suspend disbelief - it's like asking if all the Glee characters had such amazing voices coming from a small Midwestern city, you know?

Weirdly, until he turned up as Angus, my only association with Jai Waetford was his time on The X Factor.

Is Madison's boyfried a real actor? He seemed like some random handsome guy they saw on the beach and said "hey, want to be in Neighbours?" to.
