Does anyone know
Where I could stream old Neighbours episodes from? I've just bought the first 50 eps on DVD, and I know I'll want more afterwards.

shareThe only places I've ever been able to find anything is YouTube or DailyMotion, and there you're relying on whether or not people have all the episodes you're after, or if they have the time to upload, and half the time the videos get taken down due to copyright.
shareI would love it if they were to release more episodes on DVD - I am sure there would be a market for it, especially in the UK!!!
Considering some of the garbage that gets released, surely we can see this happen for what is an iconic and still going Aussie show!!
I guess we should be thankful that the master copies are probably all still existing - whereas I do know with YTT that a lot of the episodes from the early years up till about 1982 (so eps from 1971 to 1982) no longer exist; as it was policy at the time to wipe them.
So the only footage of that would be from the early VCR's and also personal footage from that of Johnny Young as well, that he has managed to keep.

People never thought home DVD/Blu Ray would even be a thing back in 82, and obviously had no idea for a long time before that. There's a lot of British shows that got wiped too, apparently we got the policy from them, including heaps of old Doctor Who episodes.
shareYeah, BBC stuff especially as it's a nationalised network couldn't waste money on the expensive new film so they recycled it or something like that.
But yes, they would sell well.
Thanks Rock Fenris.
I might email the production company and ask them where one could get their mitts on the episodes.
Say you're willing to pay for it - like you would with a normal DVD - and they would probably be more willing? I don't know though. It's worth a try. But that's what I would do. I have to wonder where they have all of them stored and just what kind of condition they're in. You would think it would be good. They might not want to touch them too much though, especially the stuff that wouldn't be digital.
And yeah, this is actually quite a fascinating topic for me. The big one for me in terms of movies has always been "The Wizard of Oz". Someone actually SAVED the Scarecrow's Dance, I think probably because of Busby Berkeley's involvement with it, but all the others are long lost. Harold Arlen got some footage of "Jitterbug" though, which gives you some idea, but how trippy would it be actually seeing the real scene itself? There was supposed to be an animated blue and purple bug flying around on the screen. I don't know WHAT audiences actually saw of this back in the previews before it opened, but imagine being one of those audience members seeing that... or even better, if someone there actually KEPT the preview versions of the films. I suppose people HAVE thought to go looking for those but nothing's ever turned up. I would be furious if it was being hoarded by some private collector. People like that piss me off, but only when they flaunt it by telling other people they actually have it.
Yes, I agree. A true fan should want to share their 'wealth' of memorabilia etc, so long as it remains safe and in good condition, so they can talk about it with others.
Gloating private hoarders piss me off too, but that's just the socialist in me.
Good idea to approach the producers from a financial POV. I'll post all communication here, fyi.
My DVDs have finally arrived.
I don't think we got the these episodes here. I don't remember the original Scott or Julie. I never even knew there was more than one actress for Julie. Also I only ever knew the blue opening credits.
We got the show here in '87 and it was 6 months behind. I bet we started the show 18 months in. I started watching when I was 5 or 6 so '88/'89. That is what I remember as the beginning.
Max Ramsay is so nasty, which is a shame for the original Ramsay of the show. I'm enjoying the episodes even though it's not what I expected.
Max could be quite scary. I PREFER the original Scott, Darius Perkins.
shareI'm a Jason kinda gal, I'm afraid. Loving original Julie though!

I tell a lie, it was the map credits with blue writing. Perfect blend jogged my memory.
Just about to watch the 20th anniversary episode.

I understand the recycling but wow are there Doctor Who fans who hate it now. I just think I'd never be able to go back and watch it all, but it is a pity it was destroyed.
They would sell well.
Not a bad idea.
It's a travesty, I get why it happened but it really sucks.
shareI just feel like they couldn't have known back in the sixties that they'd be wanted again. It does suck, though, I agree, but it's more hindsight is 20/20.
sharePre-video such things were unimaginable. I'm surprised they didn't consider value appreciation though, but I guess they couldn't keep everything.
shareThey really were. I mean, apparently there are even movies that got lost because they didn't see TV repeating them. It really feels like it could never have been thought of when you think about things like that.
shareIt's almost inconceivable now.
I struggle to remember how I survived pre google or pre DVR/mobile phone. I'm watching old Columbos, the lack of technology is crazy.
I wish he were alive to make one now.
I can almost remember life before the internet. Almost. Oh I know! Even watching shows like Frasier from the 90s and it's amazing how technology is so different.
Oh I liked him. It would be good, yes.
I'm 33. I did school before home internet, seems barbaric to think of it, haha. I had an encarta CD rom.
shareI'm 47 (just - it was my birthday last week) so I know what you mean. I've seen the hugest changes in technology in my life. Back in the 80s (which still feel more like twenty years ago than longer) so much stuff we take for granted was at best just starting out.
