30 years on British TV

Just thought id let u know.

wondered what all the flags were for!

It was a competition - count the Union Jacks and text in whether there were 15 or less, or over 15. Win a trip to Australia. I got bored of counting after the first 10 minutes but I reckon there must have been over 15. Not going to bother entering though.

reply

I counted 13 unique ones. A couple got shown in multiple shots.

We never got the first eps and just started about 12-18 months in. I started watching in about 88, so miss loads of stuff.

reply

Not sure, but that might have been because of the transition from Channel 7 to Channel 10? It initially aired on 7, for whatever reason (ratings, budget) it got axed and 10 picked it up. So that might be why the first ones didn't get shown internationally if 7 got tight on it. Which they would, because interest in the first episodes would be helping out the future ones which belong to the competition. Or something like that.

reply

That makes sense...or BBC didn't want to play 18 months of catch up so wouldn't buy them...Even though we started 6 months behind anyway.

reply

Actually we did get the Channel 7 episodes (I didn't watch it back then though) and we got the Channel Ten '86 episodes in July of '87 . I was only seven years old and I started watching the show in around August of that year and I think a lot of people did around that time then too.

reply

I remember very little before 88, when I started watching. I was 5. I just assumed because I didn't recognise the first few episodes when I saw them and not getting them here fitted with the timing.

reply

Ah okay. I just thought maybe the competition with the networks may have been why.

reply

Seems like it wasn't that but it would make sense.

reply

I'm not so keen on the very early stuff, anyway. I enjoyed watching it on my DVDs, but it hadn't hit its stride, yet.
