who is Jessie?

Xanthe and Gary mentioned soembody called Jessie. Does anybody know who that is?

reply

Perhaps Xanthes mother?

reply

Xanthe's mother's name is Brooke. I remember it because she mentioned it when Katherine Kelly Lang did her guest appearance (Lang plays Brooke on The Bold & The Beautiful).

reply

I also think Brooke is her mother. They mentioned both her mother and Jessie. Don't know if Jessie is a man or a woman. Could it be a sibling? or stepfather?

reply

Xanthe's mum is called Brooke.

Jessie could be an friend of Xanthe's or old girlfriend of her dad.

Jesse could could be a male or female. I think Jessie/Jesse will end up being a female.

reply

Another mention of Jessie in today's episode, but still no indication whether it's a man or a woman. It's probably not a boyfriend, because it sounds like Xanthe knows how to find this Jessie person, but she doesn't know how to find her mother

reply

Maybe she's Brooke's sister? Or brother if it's Jesse.

reply

Xanthe's half sister.

reply

Yep.

Could be interesting if she comes on the show.

reply

Isn't Jessie Brooke's other daughter?

reply

We only know that for sure as of a couple of episodes ago. They were all mysterious about her - could even have been a guy as all we had was the name Jessie (could've been Jesse).

reply

That's true.

Jesse isn't a common name over here. Jessie is more common. So I just generally assume female.

reply

I mostly know it from Jessie's Girl (which should be spelled Jesse, I maintain) and I have a friend with the name, but it's not terribly common over here either. I sort of mostly think of Jesse James otherwise.

reply

I agree, it should be Jesse.

I have a friend called Jesse, he is from Melbourne, so I just assumed it was more common in Aus.

I think of it as being a beachy name, dunno why.

reply

It annoys me a bit that it isn't.

I don't know many other than my friend.

Maybe. I also associate it with the Carly Simon song.

reply

Haha, I associate with the junior doctor in diagnosis murder... I think that makes me considerably less cultured than you.

reply

Oh I liked that show too, and I thought of him as well. It's just not a name used that much, though.

Mind you, currently there are three Billies on Australian TV, so maybe names kind of go in cycles.

reply

Yeah, they do. I'm not a fan of Jesse as a male name. It's a pseudonym for a wimp, e.g. 'you big jesse'. I really like Hilary, Vivian, and Dorian for men though - so I'm not opposed to unisex names.

reply

I've actually seen it spelled Jessy (when using it for a wimp), but I know what you mean. I like Evelyn too, though I didn't know Dorian was used for women - but I only know it via Oscar Wilde.

reply

Female Dorian is quite common in the older generation here.

Oh with a Y for wimp, that's interesting.

reply

That's interesting. I wonder if Wilde was signalling something now.

I know I've seen it written somewhere as "you great Jessy" and from context it meant wimp.

reply

I'm not sure Wilde meant owt by it. Maybe he did, I dunno, I just think of it as unisex. Isn't Dory the fish a Dorian?

reply

I always look for subtext with Wilde, really. I don't either, just occurred to me. I have no idea, but that would be cute.

reply

Yeah, could be subtext, I suppose. I'm pretty rubbish at that stuff.

To us, she can be Dorian.

reply

Sometimes I pick up on it and sometimes I wonder what people are seeing, honestly.

She can. I love Dory. Haven't seen her film yet, but I love Finding Nemo.

reply

If I'm feeling blue or bored I'm more sensitive to it.

Me too. I might try and stream the film tonight.
