Natalie Blair got two or something, didn't she? Didn't think Carmella was all that spectacular.
Piper is insane. The episode last night where she cracked it at Tyler, I seriously felt uncomfortable, an intensity I don't really get from "Neighbours".
She is. I tweeted her after the balloon crash episode, she was the best actress/actor/thespian by a country mile!!
She's as good as, if not better, than a lot of others who have transitioned to the big time: Guy Pierce, Margot Robbie, Chris Hemsworth. She'd be awesome in the series Fargo, I think.
I can only comment on Guy and Chris as I've never seen Margot in anything, but she is definitely as good as both of them (and, much as I think he's hot, probably better at acting than Chris can be, depending on the role).
I'd love to see her as a companion on Doctor Who, I think she'd be a lot of fun in that role. They've had a few Aussies in short term roles on there.
I could also see her doing the same as Ashleigh Brewer and going to a US soap, then moving on from there, or even in a show like Grey's Anatomy or some other drama like that.
I've only seen clips of her acting to be fair, but I was impressed.
She would, especially if it was a similar character to Piper.
I've never seen it, so I'll go with your superior knowledge.
She might be OKish, I honestly can't see her being the next Meryl Streep, (which I could with MH). I just didn't like Kate, so that affects my opinion of her acting.
Oh, I definitely see that! She'd be ideal. More so than Lindsay Lohan (and I don't mean Lindsay's issues - I'm more, who though she was even close to a match for Elizabeth?)
I actually have seen a couple of trailers and she looks good in those.
Yes.
Ashleigh is okay. At least up to the soap standards. I don't know what Kate was like, but I do like her B&B character, Ivy. Well, sometimes I don't but it's more the "what are you thinking?" type of thing (I often have that with Elly too!)
I'm not sure I see MH as the next Meryl Streep but I don't know if I see anyone like that. But I could see MH doing very well, don't get me wrong. It's just, I don't think anyone compares to Meryl. Which I am ever so slightly biased about, yes.
I honestly think Meryl's a true original as is Mavournee. Yes. I only saw that film because it had Anthony Head. Even Meryl wouldn't have been enough alone. She could! I could also see her being the next Cate Blanchett, but I like Cate too. Or Kate Winslet speaking of people I love. Something like their careers.
I was thinking Kate Winslet too actually. Have you guys ever seen "Heavenly creatures"? One of my all time faves, but I can only watch it about once a year. Utterly devastating.
I saw it once in high school late one night. Never forgot it from what I managed to catch of it. I'd loved Peter Jackson's "The frighteners" movie which I saw around that time as well and "The Lord of the Rings" was all coming out at the time. Then about six years ago I grabbed a copy of it on DVD, watched it one night and... OMG... I've never reacted to any other movie like this. But someone told me though, "Then you haven't seen "Martyrs" or "Anti-Christ"" and I still have to see those! But seriously, by the end of this movie, I was bawling for five minutes straight.
Crazy btw how that happened with "Neighbours" and Josh this year! Totally WASN'T expecting that, and then it came on, and wow. ONLY time that's ever happened to me watching "Neighbours", which is a massive call, because I watched Madge, Drew, Toadie/Dee, all of that.
If I come on here ranting and raving like a fan boy, you'll know I loved it. But more so if I can avoid the spoilers! I managed to do it with "Star Wars'!!
It really is. I've been into a few people before they got big, but so many didn't get big when I thought they would. But it's been a lot of fun to see Chris Hemsworth become big - I actually started watching H&A for him because someone I know was really into him back then (and still is).
I'm sure she will be, though she could do worse than have Piper turn into a long-time iconic and beloved character, too. I might disagree on Elizabeth Banks (think she's as good, maybe not better). I could also see her being like Julianne Moore, who also started in a soap :)
Yeah, I think she has potential to be a Neighbours icon & long-term resident.
I just think of Elizabeth Banks on Scrubs, and I thought that was below her, but she has been good in other stuff. Cameron Diaz was awesome in Being John Malkovich - she Mavournee level in that.
Julianne Moore, another great character actress. MH can do comedy, as we saw with the Lou & Kathy scene, but she has a substance to her which better suits character roles.
I really think she could be. Whatever she does, it'll be awesome.
Oh that's a good point, I was thinking more of her other roles - she had some wonderful moments in The Hunger Games, especially the last movie, I could see Mavournee doing that easily. I have not seen that movie, but I generally like her.
True! Oh now I want to see her play a male role - like an actual man, not a woman in disguise. It has been done, and I know she'd kick it. That could be an Oscar role.
I became "obsessed" with that case. "So brilliantly clever" is the best book on it I've ever read. Some people were saying in the reviews it had a bit TOO much detail. And I was like, no complaints here!!! It left me with so many questions. There's a great site as well which will give you some good stuff, The fourth world. Always thought it was sad that there wasn't even a picture of the mother, the victim herself. Just the two killers. So what she was like? The book answered that really well, but whether there's any actual picture... I heard someone say there WAS, and that it was used in a documentary, which I haven't been able to see yet. I asked the director about it, and he said he was told that it was believed to be her, and to try to see any picture... you'd have to ask the family themselves. And yeah, I don't want to do that...
I think it would be absolutely fascinating and I'd certainly be interested in checking out the sites - the case itself isn't the issue, there were just some things in the movie that made me too upset to watch again. I'll check the site out. Oh interesting, I must see if the library has the book about it. No, not good.
The book answered so many questions. I had to wonder how on earth this guy knew so much? I hadn't seen half this stuff even talked about before? I heard the book was good, but wow. The detail was just harrowing. Again, the movie left me with so many questions, like how everyone reacted straight after. Well, they do this. From hour to hour to the whole trial.
I usually watch Anne Perry "Interiors" after the movie. That's a documentary they did with Juliet (she changed her name and is now a popular writer.) They go into her house and talk with all her friends. Anne only really opens up about it at the end. "It's the thing that happened".
I know about Anne Perry being Juliet - I think reading something about that is what led me to the movie back when, actually. Maybe because a lot of the time people have said stuff like "Agatha Christie never killed anyone" and here's a writer who was at least involved in something like a murder.
There was a story about Anne signing books, back in the 90s, and there was a poster of "Titanic" behind her. Of course, Kate Winslet as Rose, and Kate played Anne/Juliet in the movie. That was Kate's breakthrough as an actress too. I just wish Melanie Lynskey had been as big too. It's her performance there I actually prefer. And this is coming from a Kate fan too. Melanie was just incredible in this.
And that leads us back to Mavournee. She's either going to be like Kate, big big career winning awards, or criminally underrated like Melanie :(
That's a heck of a coincidence with Kate and yes, of course. The only other thing I can remember Melanie in was Two And A Half Men and... she was good in it, but it's not like Kate of course.
She will definitely be like that, for sure. There've been a couple of actors I saw big things for that never eventuated either so let's hope Mavournee gets that way. She might turn into someone like Kate Richie at the very least, being very beloved for one role - Piper could be it or something else.
I'd like that. The kind of movie that really has an impact culturally - even something like Clueless or Mean Girls where people still quote from it twenty or more years later.
Or a definitive adaptation of a novel like the Pride & Prejudice with Colin Firth, even.
